What can you do? Dopamin

    I see alot of people here talk about this and i get the feeling that they want do avoid it. Can you do anything that gives you pleasure? Like having a nice dinner out with friends, do hobbies you like, have a drink sometimes, play a game.

    I can get overwhelming since i start to think, can i do this? Can i eat this? Am im messing upp my dopamine. And it can get stort of depressing.

    For the majority here giving up this addiction is difficualt alone to do. And then also take away things that not are sexual can get to much.

    What do you think?

    There's no reason to think having a nice dinner with friends would be a problem unless you eat a really bad meal, like deep friend donut sandwiches or something.

    Do you have a problem with drinking or gaming? I don't drink because I have friends who have issues with alcohol, but it just isn't a problem for me. I don't even like it, I can have like one drink in over a year and not have another one. At this point it *might* be true with gaming but it probably depends, that one is tricky because there's a huge difference in types of games. If something is immersive enough it may be addictive.

    You have to think about it and not just worry "is it bad" which doesn't tell you anything. Peoples relationship to things that can be potentially addictive are all different. Some people don't have a problem with sex, never did and never watched porn - even if it's kind of rare now sometimes they are just wired differently like that. Of course with porn it's more like the hard drugs in a way, there's also no real reason to do it unlike a moderate amount of alcohol with non-alcoholics.

    I was a heavy, daily drinker for a while. But i stopped that because it was bad for me and caused more relapsed than i can count. And not gaming either, i play FIFA for 30-45 min every other day. I was woundering if that is bad since it give me joy and maybe dopamin.

    My point is you have to look at whether it is a problem for you, those are just examples. For example some people quite drinking but they smoke, you can criticize them for not quitting smoking but smoking doesn't land them in jail, they don't end up in some far away place not knowing where their car is, waking up to a stranger they don't even like - but those are things that happen with hard core alcoholism. There are people who try to do a dopamine fast but what they quit even for the duration is a bit arbitrary.

    Also remember dopamine is a natural neurotransmitter that has a normal function, with addiction it just gets out of balance.

    Another way I think it gets out of balance is people only think about the things they shouldn't do or have, they never think about what they SHOULD do. Instead of just thinking you should quit this or that or not have this or that, think about what you should have. You can't stop eating so choose healthy foods, measure portions.
