Becoming the writer I want to be

Another 1600 words today, finishing the chapter, and bringing my word count to over 100,000 words.

1600 words done today, starting a new chapter that will perhaps be the last "long" chapter in the book. We are getting to the good stuff now, with the first instance of one story directly referencing the events of the other. Hopefully the reader will react like this when it happens.

 

How did you relapse after 322 days of staying clean?

 

The situation leading up to that relapse was weird. For more than a week beforehand I got violently ill, I dont know if it was food poisoning or what but I was sick as a dog for a while. By the time it was over something just snapped in my brain and I decided to relapse simply to relieve the stress I was feeling at the time.

My advice is actually to take your time writing. The old adage "less haste more speed" is applicable in your case. Surely what you write is more important than how much you write?
I know from personal experience this is true. Frankly writing 500 words a day then deleting 400 is heart breaking. I myself found it soul destroying. I was at my most effective when I set a target of 500 words a day.
I deliberated and pondered over each word. If someone was watching me they would have found me quite eccentric. But very seldom did I delete anything I wrote!
I know you probably have deadlines to meet. Ergo you will have to set a higher target. Nevertheless you may find my method effective.

Well I had to reset the counter because masturbation or porn counts as a relapse, but thank you for the encouragement anyway.

 

Little under 2000 words today.

 

No writing this weekend as usual, just reading through and editing what I have. Currently on 105238 words across 299 pages.

 

Went kinda overboard to finish the chapter, got 3000 words done.

 

Just less than 1500 words today. A lot of the chapters that remain are very short, but I dont want them to be jarringly so. Its a challenge figuring out ways to keep the limited story remaining going without either bloating the chapters too much or having them be so short they feel too light.

 

1800 words today, chapter should be done tomorrow.

2600 words this morning, but I am tempted to finish up the chapter later on because its a short one and my favourite. I'll update if I do.
