Hello. I have been fapping continuously once or twice every (or almost) day for about 10 years or so. I was/am feeling out of energy almost constantly, then I heard about NoFap. Lots of people have been saying, that their overall energy levels have increased ever since they stopped fapping. I don't wanna take anyone's word for it, so this is sort of an experiment to see first of all, if I have the willpower and second of all if there are some sort of benefits for me regarding day-to-day energy. I first read about this forum on reddit and that's how I got here. I last fapped yesterday and I'm hoping to keep it that way for at least 90 days. Also gonna try "hard mode". That doesn't seem to be THAT hard though, because I do not foresee any sexual contact with women anytime soon. We shall see what this experience will bring about and I will try to be here on a daily basis. Thanks.

Hi Clover, welcome. There are a lot of guys here offering advice and taking it. When I look at a newbies post, I look for some key concepts. There are some key concepts I don't see in your post, such as porn or PMO. I do not wish to presume those are part of your issue, but if they are I can assure you going hard mode cold turkey, without preparation and without getting educated about the problem, usually results in frustration and a relapse. Anyway, I wanted to wish you luck. I started a thread here that may offer you nothing in the ways of useable information, but it is what I know about how to quit porn/PMO and MO. Six months clean now. My problem was never MO, MO was just a symptom of my problem. My problem was porn on the brain. Once I got that cleared out, the rest just sort of cured itself.

    Here is my post.

First page, first link, is the most important. It is the TED talk by Gary Wilson. I watched it and quit porn completely shortly thereafter. Once I understood what my problem was and what it was not, I began to form a method to beating it.

    Peace.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. Indeed, my problem is/was PMO. It is just today that I started to educate myself on the lingo being used here and on other sites alike. I have watched the TED talk and a lot of it resonates with me on one level or another. As of today I no longer have any porn material on my hard drive. Wiped it all clean. I admit, deleting it was hard, so that might be the first clue as to why this experiment isn't gonna be as easy as I thought. Anyway, I do really hope that in time I will gather all, or at least most of the necessary information to help me through this thing. The post you linked me to, William, is really good and helpful in general, so many thanks for that.

You are welcome Clover. I suppose I am lucky, I never did stash porn, there's so much out there streaming it never occurred to me.

Now that you have identified porn as your problem and have taken some steps to get educated, I suggest you use tools to help you fight the problem. I am speaking of porn blockers. You probably think they are ridiculous, I know I did when I first began quitting, but they do actually help, if only by slowing you down if you compulsively search for porn. A lot of guys recommend K9, though I run Firefox and I run FoxFilter. Also, take time to understand what your triggers are. If you do have a porn problem you have more than just one trigger and more than one way of accessing it. I see guys here, from time to time, that manage to stay off their computer, but still access it via smart phone. Get smart, start to think ahead about how to avoid triggers. And withdrawals...they suck, but you can't get to clean without walking through them, so, prepare yourself, don't just wake up one day with the trembles and the sweats asking "what's this?" Maybe you won't have withdrawals, some guys claim not to. I did, they felt like the worst sinus infection, headache, nausea, and the worst anxiety attack you can imagine for a few weeks, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Finally I just said "F" it, and decided if I could not sleep due to them I would just stay awake however many days and nights it took for my body to force itself to sleep.

The good news is that many guys report that if you can go 30 days without experiencing porn, you begin NOT to want to see it more than you want to, which makes it one hell of a lot easier.

    Good luck on your journey.

Well yes, there are a lot of streaming sites, I've been there a lot and they did satisfy me until a few months back, when I started to look for something else than usual porn to get me excited and I did find... some resources in real shady places and I'm really not proud of going there and doing that. I'm not really sure how severe my addiction is, but I seem to have a strong willpower in times of need. Like for example with smoking. 5 years may not be a huge amount of time, but I did smoke for 5 years every day and when I told myself that I'm quitting cold turkey, I didn't smoke a single cigarette until I knew that it was not something that my organism is dependant on and I can smoke just because I feel like it or when I'm with friends. I had weak moments, of course, but did not experience any withdrawal whatsoever. I'm not sure if these two addictions can be compared, but I actually have high hopes for succeeding. Even higher still, after I found this site and all of you guys. And actually, the porn blocker could be a good idea, I'm gonna give it a spin. Thanks again for your support.
