I’m in the same boat. I drink daily. I don’t get drunk, but enough to take the edge off as they say. I want to try and go without for awhile because lately I’ve been consuming more do to being out of work and boredom. Also, everyone around me drinks as well, including family, so that doesn’t make it any easier. I remember quitting for three months a couple of years back, and I felt great. Slept better and felt an overall better sense of well being.

Unfortunately there is no easy way , the only way is to stop drinking one day at a time , do not think about 1 month just try one day and then another day. Small steps not giant leaps.

  3. In my opinion you lose the battle in a shop, not at home. If you know what I mean.

For those people exposed to a drinking culture or those with a tendency to self-medicate/distract themselves (from boringness, emotional pain etc), alcohol or drugs can be such an easy escape and it could easily turn unto a dangerous addiction. People should be aware of the risk. For myself, i started drinking during college days. I still enjoy whiskey but my last drink was pre covid (about 5 months back) and alcohol never went well with pmo cause id get sleepy or have a hard time getting an erection. I still will enjoy (and not abuse) the occasional tipple and for me, it's never been a problem. However, alcohol, drugs, gambling all hold a different risk for different people and its good that we are aware that they are all potentially addictive and destructive. For me weed causes the worst binges ever and i stay clear of it. If not for my weakness with porn, i would still smoke/vape the herb.

I'm a recovered alcoholic. It can be done, you can get your life back.
    How much are you drinking?
How many days a week do you drink?
Do you get absolutely wasted when you drink?
Are your hands very shaky in the morning?

  6. Agreed. Actually you could change alcohol into any addiction. You are right. You shouldn't try things that don't benefit you but bind you to addiction.

I drink on 6 days a week, one day I can stay sober, because then I manage to go the gym.

Since a few months I write down in a journal exactly how much I drank every month.

I only drink in the evenings/nights. Only beer. On average 2-3 beers a day, on weekends/holidays 4-6. Before Corona I used to get pretty wasted 1-2 times every weekend, but since the restrictions I don't go partying anymore. Basically this day-to-day beer drinking goes on for 5 years. Before that it was only weekends.

I have no shaky hands in the morning, but every evening when it gets dark, I have a constant craving for beer and the calming effect of alcohol. My sleep is ruined since years and the alcohol doesn't make it better even though it makes me fall asleep easier. I'm tired at work, have problems with concentrating and high pulse/blood pressure.

I tried replacing it with non-alcoholic beer but it never worked. I tried drinking only 1 beer every evening, but it never works. On most days I can stop after 2-3 beers, but those 2-3 I really need otherwise I get nervous. I always have this fucked up image in my mind that after sitting down and calming down by drinking a couple beers I would find a solution for all my problems with PMO, work and women. Of course this magical solution never appeared.

How did you manage to recover from your addiction? On which level of an alcoholic do you think I am at the moment based on my description?

Ok so pre Corona you were getting wasted 1/2 a weekend, what about in the week? It seems like post corona you are drinking less, but more often, is that right?
Yes, it could be much worse, but heres the thing, if you carry on, it WILL get worse, guaranteed - alcohol dependence is a progressive condition. So the earlier you catch this the better. Start today. Positives for you, you can stop after 3 beers, thats very good news. One day a week you CHOOSE not to drink. That is also good news. So, think logically, if you are able to do that one day a week, theres no reason you cant do it 2 days a week right?
You do seem dependent on it, thats not such good news. So yes, i think you have a problem, but not a huge one. For the moment id just say recognise yes, there is a (potentially) serious issue here, and sooner rather than later im gonna have to address this.
We can PM if you like.
    Cheers :)

This. My weed addiction was very strong. The problem is that weed didn't really have short term sideeffects. Only after a few years of selling and smoking everyday (all day mostly), I got some mental side effects. Also, I prayed to God that I get problems for it so I can quit. And after a while not only we're my mental problems getting worse but I started getting physical problems from it (I won't list the details but dm me if you're interested in the details of my weed withdrawals). That's when I finally quit it for good. Woth pmo it's a similar struggle but I'm gonna beat this too!

On the other hand alcohol is something I do occasionally and don't really have cravings for. Also after a day of drinking I don't feel normal, I'm winded from it.

You moan about your addiction to cannabis while you break the law and encourage others to be addicted.
What have you done to help the people whose lives you have ruined. ?

i pray for forgiveness, i deleted every one of those contacts. when someone asks me for some 'help' as we say in the lingo, i say no. if one of my close friends asks for it i usually tease them and tell them wtf, you wanna become a junkie now?

i don't sell anymore. it's something i regret ever doing. once i realised the harm it does i decided to stop, mostly because i felt like i was making money off of evil and spreading poison. also because i realised i don't want to ruin my future bcs of that garbage.

the damage is done, i cannot do anything except pray for those people.

my opinion is that it isn't moaning, i was just saying how I beat my struggle. you wouldn't call people at an AA meeting moaners.

takes a good man to know he's on the wrong path and decide to live his life the right way. weed was so subtle, i thought it was a 'good friend' at first. but like you after a few years, hoo boy. But i blame myself because i never had respect for my body and mind in the first place, or the fact that i was taking a powerful herb. Good luck in your journey.

this post made me feel good, thanks. of course it's pur fault, taking responsibility for your actions is what mature men do. we're on the road less traveled my friend, it's not easy walking it. but it's well worth it.
