I don't know, the people here who strives the most, 1 year or more, still are seeing somo improvements.
But i understand we need more data to sau something.

Gary wilson does say that based on what?
Did he see people on NoFap for 2 years who don't see any improvement?

I'm guessing it based on his own research and how many cases we now see with little to no improvements

Yep, i mean, it's not scientifical, and he did not delve into that, so we can't make any real conclusion.

I am sure that many guy after hearing that sentence would give up just after a month of NoFap believing they're damaged for life.

  4. He also said people look at porn are beta and those who don't are alpha which is silly nonsense. We shouldn't treat him like he's some sort of God and accept everything he says without thinking about critically.

I guess it can be easy to interpret it as permanent, especially when it doesn't seem to work at times.
I've been able to have sex the last 3 months but orgasms set me back into flatlines constantly and there seems to be no explanation.
Again with people who suffer for years and see little improvement so you can see where permanent come into it

  6. Exactly. I think Gary is treating porn addiction like other mental illnesses—there are cases where the illness has to be managed b/c it can’t be overcome. Yet schizophrenis, manic depressives, bipolar people can lead satisfying lives. Same with this thing.

But I agree—our brains are highly adaptable and incredibly powerful. I wouldn’t give up hope yet. But definitely consider Gary’s words a warning.

There definitely needs to be more research regarding this, I mean no one know we're the cut off point is before it becomes irreversible, but saying that everyone is different.

I never escalated my porn use but have gone through PIED for years.
Been able to have sex the last 3months but now I'm back in flatline.
Whether it's orgasming too much I'll never know.
Seems the brain is altered though

It's exactly how this works. The (scary) consequences of my extreme porn use have been eradicated with NoFap and other shifts I managed to operate in my life. But I'll always be a former addict, I'll always have to be careful not to dive in this (or any other) shit again. In that sense, we're permantently damaged, and it's the same pattern with every person who ever let their addictive side run free for long enough.

One of the neurological explanations is that the neural pathways your brain creates each time it seeks to reinforce a behavior (to facilitate it next time around) never fully go away : they're just deserted if you stop using them. Which is one of the reasons it's rarer to relapse the further away from your last use you are. These neural pathways are essentially built around the link between the stimuli (whatever gets you to think/feel you need P) and the effect (what you mr body looks for while doing P). Spoiler alert : the stimuli are extremely varied, from hearing certain words to feeling lonely to being tired or distressed to seeing a patch of naked skin, and they're everywhere in the world. Can't avoid them. If wére always at risk from being "switched on" then we're permanently damaged ^^

Does it mean that this life isn't worth living? Absolutely not! It's a wonder to be PMO free, and being different from the "normal-people-who-are-not-damaged" isnt such a bad thing :)

  11. So is he talking about real sexual consequences as in permanent PIED, or psychological effects such as association and classical conditioning?

Lab rats that were addicted to cocaine had a neurological recovery rate of 85-100%. The brain is very plastic. I think the real harm is the establishment of a certain weak spot that can be triggered by certain images and such, a sort of tendency to fall back into addictive behavior...? This is why it's important to stay away from pornography, to retrain the prefrontal cortex, the evolved part of the brain. Porn just shuts it off, the way alcohol and drugs do. It's called hypofrontality and makes a pleasurable habit even harder to resist. So when you're done this evolved you kicks back in again and that's when you feel down and emotional. For this reason watching porn can just never be healthy. That this poison has been legalized at the time, is totally outrageous...

Abstain from pornography, dedicate your life to self-improvement, eat healthy, be healthy, and you’ll recover fully.

One of my best friends was addicted to ecstasy (MDMA). He also drank too much, smoked weed, did cocaine, and some other drugs. Ecstasy was his main drug.

After being completely sober for a year he confided in me that he was afraid he’d never be happy again. He had difficulty concentrating, felt mentally slow, etc.

Now at 8 years sober, he says he is far sharper than he was before he started doing drugs. He has recovered and surpassed his previous standard.

He dedicated his life to getting better. He worked out a few times a week, ate healthy, meditated, etc for 8 years. It wasn’t easy, but he managed it.

If he can recover from drug-induced brain damage then you can recover from porn-induced brain damage.

  16. It scares as fuck. But I think he said this just to scare people away from pornography because in his book he never talked about permanent damage he just said some people take more time.

Also the brain can do neurogenesis even when adult.

well yeah it's the dopamine you're addicted to. learn not to release dopamine, nobody is actually addicted to the genital stimulation, the genital stimulation is merely a mean to exite dopamine, same thing as heroin.

you can wear your dopamine cells out, just like pancreatic cells get worn out then you get diabetes

the lowered metabolism is bad for your arteries. you need to NoFap til basal metabolism exceeds blood sugar, then you start cleaning out the arteries, takes two weeks. your memory and intelligence is mostly artery health
