Any fellow musicians here?

Cool story, glad to hear about other people who love music.

Not really a musician per se, but I'm learning several instruments:
Traditional Irish instruments:
Uilleann Pipes (1 year)
Whistle (2 years)

Traditional Chinese instruments:
Dizi (several months)
Erhu (one month)

And of course I only play traditional style music on these.

 

That's awesome to know there's a fellow musician here! I'm a bass player for an avant garde doom metal band and I love playing the bass and coming up with awesome riffs. My favorite music genre is heavy metal but I also enjoy EDM and a little bit of hip hop. Good luck on releasing that album! My band has yet to release our demo

 

I've played guitar since 2008 and have made music on my laptops with FL Studio since 2011-ish. I made sample based hiphop beats up until 2016 when i did a full 180 and switched to house/techno/electro sounds. When i get proper equipment i want to try mixing in my guitar for some dub techno fusion.

 

Instruments: I've been a drummer for about 8 solid years now, and I also play some guitar, electric bass and keys. I've also been getting into producing and rapping.
Genre's: I really love everything, jazz, metal, rock, hip-hop, reggea, classical, folk and country, world music, electronic music, and everything inbetween.
Do I write my own material: Yes, I write songs on guitar and keys, and do some rapping and producing.
I've also played in a jazz-funk Big-band as a drummer, and a punk band!
I also played at a jamsession every sunday for 2,5 years, and organised it for 1,5, so I've played all kinds of stuff, I really like improvisational music and jamming! One of my favorite bands is The Grateful Dead.

 

Yes drums are stupidly expensive, I was very lucky, my mom was a teacher at a high school, the music section had recently upgraded to an electronic kit, and the old acoustic kit they had no use for anymore, this was around the time that I had played drums at a neighbor boy's house (I was about 11) and my mom managed to get it for free from them

You can find pretty decent (crappy) second hand kits on sites like eBay for not too expensive if you really want to get after it.
I'm really starting to love guitar, though I find keys a bit frustrating, feel like a total noob on them.
Trying to create a style similar to what Jerry Garcia of the Grateful dead does in his lead playing, which has something jazzy, but also more simple and melodic like bluegrass, I really dig his sound and trying to emulate that. Nowhere near though, been practicing lots over this corona period.
I do have a page but only 1 upload. A collobaration I did with a poet, it's in Frissian, so you won't understand it, but the vibe is chill.... As far as the rap thing goes I'm still trying to find my sound as a rapper and producer so most of it is unpublished. Starting to get somewhere though so if you follow me on SoundCloud, there is surely more to come!

I'm heavily into Jungian psychology, eastern spirituality and other kinds of philosophy, the themes I want to tackle revolve mostly around that as well as tackling the issue that is our modern toxic culture, where we are, how we got here and where to go next. Real existential stuff, no bullshit about money and cars

 

Hey guys been playing the acoustic guitar for about 2yrs now. really want to switch to electric. I like blues, r&b,chillhop....anyone have any ideas on which kinda electric guitar i should checkout? I want to focus on r&b,neo-soul.

Around the age of 15 I started playing keyboard, still waiting to get my first real synthesizer though.

I'm (sadly?) a picky metal head, following certain bands rather than genres (with the exception of Progressive Metal maybe). I enjoy 70s Hard Rock and Blues as well.
Some of my favorite bands are Katatonia, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Riverside, Deep Purple, Dio, Porcupine Tree, Evergrey, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I also enjoy electronic ambient stuff (Stellardrone, Solar Fields), and video game and movie OSTs (The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and for the rest mostly stuff by Hans Zimmer, especially the Last Samurai score).

 

Sadly i do not and my laptop with all of my music crashed (due to me trying to uninstall a program meant for me to not view porn).

Ultimately i guess it'd just be me playing lead over my synths rather than programming the usual arpeggio in techno
