Instagram- a silent trigger?

    Hi everyone,

I'm a 29 year old male getting back on nofap after a gap of a few years.

Currently I am 6 Days free of PMO, I am doing the 90 days challenge, although I am aiming for 365 days. I wanted to talk and start a conversation about Instagram. Mostly because of what I did today.

I've staying strong and feeling good about staying away from PMO, but today after I came across a hot person's post on instagram stories, my mind started wandering and wanted more. I even ended up responding to that story. Something that you can classify as "sexting." Although the person didn't respond, the picture didn't go off my mind.

My problem with instagram is, I just can't bring myself to unfollow certain people who are only posting hot pictures of themselves. Somehow my mind convinces me into thinking "its just a harmless picture."

I can't quit instagram for good because a part of my earnings depend on that.

I do not have a question about this situation, but want to know experiences of more people, if anyone found instagram as a barrier/ trigger in their nofap journey.

In fact, it is part of your mind that rationalises that a hot picture is merely a harmless picture. You need to use the other part of your brain, using cognitive countermeasures, to remember the consequences of doing so and to focus on the self-improvement you want to make. Not just in avoiding masturbation and porn but to your overall wellbeing.

  5. I think our world itself is a trigger: is impossible dont feel some kind of urge with a oversexualized culture like the one we live. Yesterday was a rough day for me in this sense, i saw a hot girl in the street and almost relapsed by the night time. Luckily i could stay strong.

I assure one thing: these posts on your instagram are not "harmless pictures" for you, but a form of edging that can lead you to relapse.

Instagram almost made me relapse on this attempt, I deleted it on day 20, but on day 120 I installed it to talk to an old friend, I wrote ibi as in ibiary, a woman with a lingerie business appeared and had hot photos, I deleted it a day later, please if any of you have the ability to delete insta (meaning you get your earnings from it) uninstall it

Instagram is literally my WORST trigger, even worse than porn. Over the last year I've saved hundreds if not thousands of photos of young bikini models. The worst part is you start making an emotional attachment to these girls who don't even know you exist. It got really bad, so here's what I did.

    1) Trim the fat. Start by unfollowing the less "important" models. I did this and cut about 80-90 different profiles I followed. There was about 15 that I couldn't bring myself to unfollow. Unfortunately those are the most dangerous ones.

    2) Deactivate your Instagram account (not delete). It's comforting to know that it's still there IF you choose to relapse, but don't use it as an excuse to do so. Remember, we are tricking the brain here or trying to anyways.

    3) After you deactivate your account, go ahead and delete the app off your phone. It'll still be accessible on your pc if you should choose to reactive your account, but you'll be less likely to slip if it's not easily available on your phone.

I know the pain and struggle, as I'm only on day five myself. Instagram has been the hardest thing to let go of.

Best of luck to us both.

Instagram is a dangerous place for most of us. It made me relapse many times. Finally, I quit all social media. It was very liberating and I am not looking back.
