    Hello, fellow Fapstronauts!

Just wondering if some of yous wouldn’t mind helping me out by answering me a question.

I’m currently on day 46 of nofap after suffering pied for too long! (YEARS!) I run and lift weights 6 days a week and eat, plenty of healthy foods. But the question I would like to find out is how much alcohol consumption is too much in our recovery. I used to binge drink A LOT on weekends but haven’t since I started nofap, I had a 4 pack of Guinness yesterday to unwind after a long week at work and constantly having nofap and pied on my mind!
Would you say that even 4 cans or alcohol could have a negative affect on our brains whilst trying to rewire and get everything working to how it should be? Would really appreciate some feedback on this. THANKS in advance!

  3. Alcohol has multiple effects on the mind and body which would impact one's potential for changing habits and/or freeing oneself from addiction. Here are a few:

    Alcohol's Effects:

    Mental...
-- Slows thinking and decision-making process
-- Dramatically reduces speed of reflexes / reflexive actions
    -- Impairs judgment
-- Reduces fear, anxiety, and inhibition
-- Often results in increased speech and volume
-- Tends to increase desires for and/or thoughts of sexual activity (probably a conditioned response based on purpose for drinking in the past, because alcohol actually inhibits sexual response, e.g. time to climax may lengthen considerably)

    Physical...
-- Increases heart rate (and risk of heart disease)
    -- Increases blood pressure
-- Dilates blood vessels, causing blood to "flush" skin at body's surface
-- Causes a sensation of being too hot (temperature sensors are in skin, not internal organs)
-- Kills pain and sensation of bodily injury

    Social...
-- May induce the revelation of secrets which would not, without alcohol, have been brought up
-- Causes strange women to appear far more attractive
-- Depending on the individual, can result in aggressiveness, violence, free-spiritedness, lethargy, stupor, nudity / public indecency (impaired judgment and inhibitions combined with a feeling of being hot may bring the alcohol-impaired person to the point of undressing), etc.

    Health...
    -- Kills brain cells (unrecoverable)
-- Kills any cell (most will be regenerated)
-- Damages lungs, liver, stomach, spleen, etc.
-- If consumed too much at once, causes death

    Everything in moderation.

A few drinks at the end of a hard week never hurt anybody. I lead a healthy lifestyle, lift and eat a good diet throughout the week. But lifes also for living and enjoyment.

Alcohol is a great social lubricant and helps you to unwind and put thoughts aside for a few hours.

If you enjoy a few beers now and again then bloody well enjoy them. Its not going to impact you at all unless you become a full blown alcoholic

  5. That's about the most common, and dangerous, myth about alcohol consumption. It's not far different than saying something like "a little porn in moderation...." The truth is that there is no "moderate" level of alcohol. A few beers a week is enough to keep the liver from healing, and as it is constantly being hurt more and more it will become diseased. Hepatitis may come first, then cirrhosis, then cancer. The latter is usually non-recoverable, and the patient does not last more than about six months once cancer of the liver has developed.

Of course, just a little alcohol is all it takes to retard one's thinking to the point of causing a potentially fatal accident while driving. Such accidents impact many people.

Check out this ~5-minute video about the effects of a little "social drinking." It's a classic--and has been viewed nearly 20 million times on YouTube.

Quit the alcohol if you’re serious about this journey. Point blank, period. Alcohol is only a fleeting pleasure, as is pmo. Get rid of that shit.

  7. Well I think it affects everyone a little differently. Studies have shown moderate use have no ill effects on the health. For me, alcohol causes me to get sleepy and relaxed. It also takes the edge off if I’m feeling frisky. Also, the hops in beer have a testosterone lowering effect which can also help take the edge off. Note that I don’t ever drink whisky or any liquor of any kind. Guinness is one of my favorites, besides pale ale and IPAs. Overall, drinking beer has always led me away from potentially relapsing, rather than towards. But that’s just how it works for me. I’ve seen people get very wound up after drinking only a little. I also don’t believe it’s right to get intoxicated, per the Bible’s instructions.

A 4 pack of Guinness is beyond “unwinding.” In 12 Step programs, once the Gold Standard of addiction fighting, a drug addict must totally swear off alcohol as well. Not so sure about porn addiction. Think of this: Why are you asking the question? It might indicate you already know the answer, at least as it applies to you.

Here’s the deal. Can you stop drinking? If not, then you probably really need to totally, not with the “just 4 beers to unwind” approach. I take no more than one drink a day, often none for days, weeks even. Can’t say the same about porn unfortunately. That’s why I’m here.

I would monitor your own reaction to the alcohol, which can impair digestion and sleeping soundly. Guinness is pretty mild stuff compared to the high alcohol drinks. Beer and wine if of good quality especially when in a social context can be relatively harmless. I'd be a lot more concerned about various types of drugs, pain killers, doctor prescribed meds. that usually have a lot of side effects as well. If you are in good health as you described only you and those around you can judge whether beer, etc. fit into a healthy lifestyle or not.

  10. It's a real bear if you don't quit the whine, and more toxic yet when the stuff is leaded.

The quality beers use a lot of hops; I like Peak, an organic product, which means that their product at least tries at a healthy product, tries not to mess up the environment, good organic hops which have medicinal qualities. I'm a big believer in herbalism. The quality herbs will bring about balance in your body. Crappy high alcohol products especially if you have sugar and alcohol intolerance issues, create health problems.

Some people get an immediate bad reaction to alcohol, an allergic response and unhealthy changes. Never drink to get drunk. I have seen too many decent people go into a desperate and hopeless situation as alcoholics.

  13. Moderate drinking is the school in which men are receiving an education for the drunkard's career. So gradually is one led away from the strongholds of temperance, so insidiously do wine and cider exert their influence upon the taste, that the highway to drunkenness is entered upon all unsuspectingly. The taste for stimulants is cultivated; the nervous system is disordered; the mind is kept in a fever of unrest; and the poor victim, imagining himself perfectly secure, goes on and on, until every barrier is broken down, every principle sacrificed. The strongest resolutions are undermined, and eternal interests are too weak to keep the debased appetite under the control of reason. Some are never really drunk, but are always under the influence of mild intoxicants. They are feverish, unstable in mind, not really delirious, but as truly unbalanced; for the nobler powers of the mind are perverted.

  14. I’ll have to try Peak. I love organic farming practices and small breweries. I believe it’s the wave of the future. Small communities, marketplaces, local businesses. We don’t need our products shipped halfway across the globe. I’d rather buy local.

I also agree with that. I was at a time when it was not going well for my family and me. In the evening, when I was alone, I started drinking until I knew what was wrong with me because of the stress that I could not calm down. That's why my wife called Abbeycare to give me treatment so I wouldn't become an alcoholic and not switch to drugs already. It does not feel good to drink day by day, so once in a while, it can, and I think that with the norm, it is necessary to drink. Always be able to think usually not to drink already and forget that you have your head on your shoulders.

  17. Since when was it ever necessary to drink? Alcoholic beverages serve no useful purpose. Here's what they do:

    * Alcohol increases the blood pressure.
    * Alcohol dilates the blood vessels, making the drinker feel hot as blood comes to the surface.
    * Alcohol slows the reflexes and thought processes.
    * Alcohol reduces natural fears and inhibitions.
    * Alcohol reduces the drinker's judgment.
    * Alcohol kills cells within the body of any type: More famously the brain cells (which don't regenerate) and liver cells (the only ones that can fight back against the alcohol).
    * Alcohol lightens the wallet.
    * Alcohol becomes an addictive drug; for some, the addiction is instant after the first drink.
    * Alcohol causes fetal alcohol syndrome, and increases the risk of SIDS.
    * Alcohol numbs the nervous system, which actually makes sex less pleasurable as well--one reason why drinkers may end up prolonging the act before orgasm can be reached.
    * Alcohol leads to liver enlargement, hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and DEATH--in that order.
    * Alcohol-impaired drivers cause the majority of traffic fatalities throughout the world.

Alcohol addicts often call their beer time "happy hour." It's a good name for it, because that's about as long as the fun lasts. A lifetime is too high a price to pay for one hour of fun, in my book.

I do drink a few beers once a week, but I also realize it's kind of a crutch to get away from routine. I guess it would be ideal to have a routine I didn't need to get away from.

Yes, alcohol in large quantities is seriously harmful to health and the brain. I'm sorry that a lot of people when they suffer, turn to drink. I don't understand what the drink helps with. I know you want to have some alcohol in your organism but drink something weak, not Vodka or Whiskey. When I went through a difficult period and suffered a lot in the evenings, I used to drink a glass of Gin. Drinking in small quantities does not hurt. So if you want to feel good and not harm your body, drink a glass of Gin, and everything will be fine, but no more.
