I got addicted to this dirty habit for more than 15 years. Today I relapsed after 90 days.
My question......Is masturbating without watching porn a relapse in recovery or is it normal and harmless????

  2. It depends on your goals. NoFap is not a strict set of rules, it's a tool to help you get rid of whatever addiction you may have surrounding PMO and sex.

I'm abstaining from PMO entirely, so if I masturbated, I'd consider it a relapse. I'll continue to abstain until I feel healed from the problems I have.

If you don't feel recovered yet or think this will set you back by dragging you into PMO addiction again, then it's a relapse. If you can move on with your life then it's just a minor slip.

  4. To each his own but if you ask me after 90 days. Either sex or masturbation (without fantasizing on porn) is essential for recovery.
Matter of fact after abstaining for this long it is important to do it to rewire the brain.

Howya I would not recommend masturbation because slowly but surely you will get sick of it and return to porn. One thing you should start to respect is semen and understand amazing amount of nutrients and energy your wasting. You dont constantly need sex either but a purpose in life.

Is ejaculation with a real partner different from masturbation? Are both harmful

  8. Hello. I don't mind you disagreeing with me nor having a different opinion on this but I think this is up for debate and it is an interesting subject I'd like to discuss about.

You know, addiction to porn is just like every addiction.
Addictions in general have withdrawal symptoms, uncontrollable impulses and many common behaviors that make them an addiction.
But just like any addiction , a person can recover from it. It is not a theory or made up, people after a certain amount of time necessary just stop craving and the withdrawal symptoms start to fade and resisting becomes a lot easier.
However, what you said is also true because many people reported the same thing. But this could also mean that they did not fully recover yet so they couldn't control themselves
Once you recover you shouldn't have a problem controlling yourself and saying "no" to porn considering that you did this for 90+ days.

I think that if you come back to porn after 90+ days of abstaining from PMO chances are you never suffered from the addiction and you weren't addicted in the first place so you grew complacent towards it because it was easy for you.
Other option being what I said earlier, you're still addicted and because you didn't give yourself enough time to recover you couldn't control your impulses.

In the end I think that if you don't masturbate after 90+ days (and you're not fortunate enough to have sex) you lose out because at the end of day this is fun and healthy to a certain degree, don't you think its important to release all of that pent up sexual tension? I understand that this is a lifestyle to many people but completely forgetting about masturbating is on some chastity monk level shit.

  9. Your next question will be then when will I know that I recovered?
    This man answers it perfectly.

Unfortunately addicts don’t just recover and never have urges again. Unlike alcohol this taps into a very real drive, best comparison would be people who struggle with food addictions. Many guys reach 90 days and relapse right back into the old behaviors/addiction and in many cases worse. It took 4-6 months clean before we really saw changes in my husband. At 19 months he’s had 3 slips and he still struggles. There are guys with 3+ years clean who still struggle. Your addiction doesn’t just go away because u were clean for 90 days. It gets easier to resist urges, but they are still there. Masturbation tends to draw you back to porn.

  12. Hey thank you so much for your input. Your words make sense to me. I think you may have accidentally convinced me to get a girlfriend haha.
I'd look at people sometimes that are successful and they PMO and it makes me wonder. The only difference is they can enjoy it while limiting themselves and us addicts can't. We're compulsive users. So what I was thinking was maybe after you get past the compulsion stage of the addiction, masturbating every now and then to release sexual tension is not that bad. But I understand what you are saying. Thank you.

Masturbation might seem like its fun at first so did porn at first it can give you a false sense of security. Just say you healed your brain and you masturbated, it releases so many chemicals which make you feel so good and emotions will savour and think this is a good idea and you will begin to rationale your prefrontal cortex views on way porn is bad. Eventually you will do more often whenever you need a quick fix and one day the urges will become so strong to watch porn and then relapse. Is masturbation really a healthy habit sure smoking was once seen as healthy. Semen contains lots nutrients and elements such as zinc surely wasting it for no reason is not a good idea. Dont be fooled by mainstream media. People might laugh at the bible but it can teach a lot of wisdom. There nothing work with sex as long its with your spouse and is meaningful. Rewire your brain to real life instead of masturbation. Good luck brother. There some of my beliefs they might be seen old school and impractical but one thing I will say is just because everyone wants liberty eg lots of sex and fun doest mean its freedom as you know with porn. Be careful of sexual immorality.

  14. I feel you man but getting a partner in my life seems too much and requires a lot of investment. On the other hand if I don't get one it seems like I will never really get to release this pent up sexual tension and enjoy one of life's greatest pleasures. I don't want years of abstinence and I don't think this is what beating a porn addiction requires.
I believe that as soon as I complete my 90 days I am definitely healed from compulsive use and from there all I have to do is moderation and not to grow complacent.
I've heard of many people on this website actually with over 400 days no P but MO occasionally that do just fine. As soon as I get 90 days I will masturbate and I will be moderate this is my plan and I will update you if it failed.
