2000s Glory Days

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Aug 24, 2020.

  1. Hi

Who else misses the 2000s? Back when the world was much more optimistic and innocent. The music was upbeat and fun to listen to. The movies were colourful, vibrant and funny. You could joke and nobody would get offended or try to ruin your life or kill you. Games were incredible it was all about great gameplay and not just graphics. The world was right side up, disaster was not looming on every corner. People were much more relaxed and approachable. You could actually have conversations with people. Things were simple and not complicated. If you wanted to do something back then it was a 123 step process instead of endless hoops to jump through. Radical political groups were not in absolute power and did not have control over people’s freedom to live their lives without constant interference thanks to propaganda. Your worth did not amount to your wallet, your social media profiles and social status. You could open your mouth without fear of being beaten, murdered, harm to your family, losing your job and livelihoods or being imprisoned. Good times indeed... 2000s. I miss those days. Life was not a constant mind game of who will fuck over whom first to get what they want.

  2. The only decade I miss are the ‘80’s.

  3. Social Media is what happened. The Internet was only community chat forums in the 90’s and 2000’s. So nobody cared. Now everybody and anyone can post anything they want. It has led to envy, jealousy, loneliness, addiction and increased depression in the world population.

  4. Everything is more depressing these days. Compare the first Harry Potter or first Fast and Furious movie to the latest ones or compare movies from the 2000s to movies made in the last decade. Every single movie has a dark filter, desaturated colours, and about dark themes. Music is also the same 00s music was fun, upbeat and you could dance to it. Now it’s all dark themes with dark beats and about substance abuse, hookers, guns, money, violence, the darkest of humanity. Compare rappers from then to now. Before they were just rapping about that stuff. Now that stuff is happening on a daily basis. Can’t find a single movie or song that’s happy. Even Taylor Swift went from making happy songs to suddenly transforming into this dark personality. I think the world is getting worse and more in a crisis as time goes on. There is great instability in the world. It actually makes sense that the movies, music and games are getting darker and that people are becoming more depressed and angry etc. Now with coronavirus, it seems that this decline and decadence of society is planned. The amount of drugs promoted in movies shows that who’s making the movies want people on drugs to ruin their lives.

  5. I think your perception was different back then since you were young(er). Childhood puts rosy glasses on people, kids are happier than adults everywhere in the world no matter what's happening around them.

  6. In the 2000s, I was a little kid so I may not know the decade as much as you do but I can see why you like it. I do like music and movies of the 2000s better than those of today. Not so sure about video games though since I really haven't played any of the newer ones. People seem to have become more sensitive after the 2000s. Anyone can be offended by anything. I guess the 2000s were better.
    I see what you mean.
Now we have Gucci Gang. Music is devolving (although good music still comes out every once in a while).
This is a possibility. But for some reason, the 2000s seem a lot greener.

  7. Every decade usually has its ups and downs. Some people look to the 1950’s as the Great American Era because of the post World War 2 economic boom, but we had the fear of communism. Some people say the 80’s were great, but we had AIDS. The 2000’s is no different. Sure they was great TV and Movies, but you had 9/11, The Iraq War, and the Great Recession.

  8. The 2000s weren’t bad for me. Well, except for the Great Recession, that was terrible.

  9. We also had high interest rates. Yep, every decade has it’s up and downs. We need to be content where we are.

  10. Oh yah 9/11 was awesome, the war on terror loved it.. I think you were younger so life seemed easier and more carefree. There’s nothing new under the sun. History repeats itself over and over. There have always been tragedy and terror looming around every corner. We just hear about everything that happens because of media.

I would like to revisit 2000 only because at that time steve jobs was alive, he was constantly bringing technological reforms, and others simply followed him. But in 2011, he died. Nothing new was innovated after him, those same smartphones, tv and laptops are sold in market that he innovated - companies are just increasing camera quality for smart phones again and again, just increasing graphics and ram for laptops. When he died innovation died, when he died - competition died, windows 8 and windows 10 are too bad - but they know that there is no competition now.
Whatever he did, others always thought it is 20 to 30 years future technology, AI what we think is future - He would had created it till now only if he would had been alive till today.

  12. I have these thoughts about the 90's, must be a nostalgia thing you get about the time you grew up in.

  13. My man, I agree with every single word you said. As a gen-Z, I have spent my life in the 2010s and I would honestly love to go back to the 2000s even though I dont know what they felt like. Because I just hate being alive in today's age. Social media is what I hate the most. It has literally changed everything. Video games have also become shitty. The biggest problem is that these forms of entertainment have become so easily accessible that the common man finds them more pleasurable than real life. Just look how porn, streaming services, video games, books, music have become so easily available. Everyone nowadays just cant relax and try to live a simple life. Everyone tries to be a celebrity nowadays.

Nostalgia is of course always a factor, but I think what we all can relate to is technological advance and the increase of control on the individual which was not possible before technology.

A written piece which I believe was ahead of its time is Ted kaczynski's manifesto, I don't agree with the actions of its author of course nor about its conclusions which doesn't seem to offer any viable solution to me, also I think the problem is not in technology itself but rather that it has been directed towards control and the biggest issue we face is that the whole world is controlled and directed by the zionists but it's still worth the read.

  15. I don’t see what your seeing. Sure there are things I don’t like about the current time i am in but I don’t have to let them ruin my life. My plan is to live the best life I can and not catch or pass on this case of the ‘poor me’ that seems to be very popular in this age.

I will suffer but I don’t have to be miserable.

  16. Something I notice is that nowadays everyone has to be everything. Individualism has reached a critical mass. Every one has to be the hottest in the room, the smartest on the thread, the funniest comic in the group, the one with the most money, the wokest in the clique; nobody can just stay in their own lane and excel where their aptitudes lie. It's a race to the top with the bar being set lower and lower for "inclusion" sake.
There's a general lack of graciousness and an abundance of ingratitude and insecurity from a population conditioned to accept mediocrity and expect rewards for such.
You can't excel at something without someone else making it about themselves.
A video about an Olympic gymnast? "How can she do that? I can't even touch my toes."
Observing a friend's artistic skills? "This is so good, I can't even draw a circle. I just draw stick figures lol."
Not to mention the rise of hook up culture... Women and girls being proud to call themselves sluts and men thinking that community dick makes them a catch. The hypocrisy of such revealed by the larger culture accepting this behavior by homosexual males and women in the name of "sex-positivity," while condemn in heterosexual males as "toxic masculinity"; it's glaringly obvious, but the brainwashing is so strong people don't come to these conclusions, they can't, else they risk social punishment.
Even up to 2010 these behaviors were still largely considered to be a sign something was wrong with you. It was a flaw. You could have all the money in the world and still be considered trashy if you weren't chaste, without proper self control— qualities considered imperative to the well-bred individual. Today, pleasure is god and do what thou wilt is the law of the land. There is no shame, no disgrace, no guilt- but the uplifting of one "living their own truth", as long as that truth aligns to the larger socio-political ruling thought.

I don't think any of this by accident, but by design. But that's another conversation for a different thread...

  17. Technological advance is part of life. I bet people in the 1790's were complaining that the 1780's were better. I hear so many people say they miss a certain decade and it's usually the one they grew up in. I have no doubt in another few years people will be posting something similar about the time we're in now.

That is exactly my point actually but with the difference that it's getting objectively worse with time and not just nostalgia. Ted's article explains it pretty well.
