An impure thought makes a deep impression upon the soul. I've now gone over two months without watching P (the last time I did was on June 25, 2020). Thank God for this. However, I still have sexual fantasies from time to time at night or in the day. I try to resist them though. For those who've been doing NoFap longer, how long does it take before the power of porn images fade, if at all?

  2. These aren't things you can realistically hope to forget, unless you get Alzheimer's or something. There are videos I've watched probably 500+ times. Maybe even 1000. And there are several of them.

Instead of trying to forget them, I think it would be easier to get to a point where you don't want to remember them. Or don't care enough to remember them.

  3. Our thinking is a result of what we have experienced in our lives up to this very moment. Maybe it isn't helpful to call these thoughts impure. They are just a result of memory which will fade over time. If you have ever experienced the loss of a family member, we eventually forget what they looked like along with the sadness and grief that goes with that loss. You can keep your actions pure by staying away from porn and sexual imagery and your thoughts will move along with this. So just keep going. I think that sexual fantasy will always be there because it is a part of human nature, but rather they are our own and not a result of what we have seen on a computer screen.

You know what, I also have the memories of porn images and videos too. I'm getting close to 11 month journey of nofap/semen retention and those memories are still there. They pissing me off. In fact, the dream woke me up and I rushed to the bathroom and it was very close. The dream was about a few ladies that has big bottoms and they were staring and smiling at me. In my opinion, THEY'RE SUCCUBUS!!! One of them standing facing the wall with her legs crossed and her sole of foot was shown. It's very hard for me to stop creating my own fantasies.

    What you resist persists.

Great question. I haven't succeeded in this department either, but I think they reduce with time. When your brain realizes they are no longer appropriate and you are doing cool new stuff, they ping you less and less. I'm not sure what it's like when you're at the 1-2 yr mark but I think it gets a lot easier. Ever goes away? I'm not sure, probably not. Go check some of the success stories out! Maybe someone there can answer your Q and report back. Good luck dude

  8. Forgetting a memory isn't something you can really actively do on purpose. You just need to focus on your recovery and they will eventually fade away.

Congratulations on two months. Memories will fade eventually, as memories always do. But we are talking years not months.

If you want to hurry the process along, make sure you are creating lots of new positive and vivid memories, and having lots of memorable experiences. Travel, if you can afford to. Take up new hobbies and activities regularly, learn new things. Keep your brain working well so it doesn't 'stagnate'. Meet new people regularly.

When you are ready to date, or start a relationship, you can create lots of new memories there as well.

Brooo i have the same problems, i keep having flashbacks and those flashbacks turns into triggers or urges. I'm guessing what @Sober is free is saying that it'll eventually fade away as time passes!

  11. I think if you willingly bring the memory back it will always be there, but the memory itself becomes less vivid over time. It looses its strength. A lot of time is needed for this though, could be months depending on how much time the brain was exposed to the images. As for dealing with these flashbacks, everybody has their own methods. Some work, some don't. I just don't think it is helpful to judge these thoughts and push them out of the mind. It is just a result of memory.

  12. I think I'm struggling with similar guys. I find that images run through my head from porn videos I've watched previously and it almost triggers me. I was so close to relapsing a few days ago but managed to leave it alone. I'm at 13 days so I guess still early days. I have like a FOMO effect in my head that I'm not watching my favourite videos or checking the new releases on a daily basis. I'm going to try and start meditating daily to refocus my thinking but grateful for any other tips you may have.

Having sexual images in your mind is great! Imagine having no urges at all, how boring that would be! So learn to appreciate your sexual urges for they push you to achieve goals in life. But they must come from yourself, not from a artificial screen!

It's tough, they will fade over time for sure if you stay the course. Maybe you can shut them down, don't feed on them, concentrate on something else.

This is a technique that i read in the book- Awaken the Giant Within.
Whatever you want to ‘delete‘, imagine it, then distort it. For example, imagine the person fading away, like the avengers did :p, then try to go backwards, i.e., reform their image. Keep repeating the steps. Eventually your brain is going to forget it. I have used it and it works for me. And it takes only a few minutes.
    Hope it helps!

In the early stages rebooting, these images wont go that easily, from time to time its always coming to test us, the good defence is we act as observant to ourself that the thought is not who we are and we can decide not to falling in the same trap again.

  18. Wow, who knows? How do you get rid of any kind of memory that is branded into your brain? Well, you have to have a determined mindset. You have to come to a full realization that you are stronger than your memories. After all, those memories are just trying to trick you to go back to your old habits.
Remember how broken hearts heal? Maybe it's like that. Time and effort. Make new memories.
