I read this scripture in corinthians 10-12 I’m focusing a lot on it, it says “God is faithful, he will not allow the temptation to be more that you can withstand.” How can this be? I’ve tried to withstand the temptation of watching porn, so much that I actually threw up one time. If this isn’t being more than I can withstand then I don’t know what is.

  2. Here is the Scripture:

    1 Corinthians 12
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

And don't forget Hebrews 12, too. Here are the first few verses, but go and read all of it for yourself. It is relevant.

    Hebrews 12
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. 4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.

Think back to the situation where you resisted to the point you threw up. Was there no other way out? Perhaps that was the best you could do in that situation. Jesus endured agony in the garden such that he sweat blood. Sometimes that is what we must go through if we are to remain on the path set before us.

I have quit a career and stayed off computers and phones for years in order to get free. I have spent many sleepless nights wrestling with temptation and many long hours in silence and stillness, waiting for the waves of temptation to end, refusing to go back into the pit. I have set strict boundaries on my activities so that I can more easily avoid unhelpful stimulus. I have formed a team of APs that I communicate with on a daily basis for over two years. I have done everything in my power to get free and stay free. Christ's peace within and the freedom it results in are my main focus each day. I am still so weak, but I find he is always sufficient, and I always have the strength I need to get through each storm as it arises. If I keep my focus on him instead of the storm clouds, I do not falter.

That is my testimony. We choose to give it everything we've got. We get desperate and will do whatever it takes to get free. if we throw up, we throw up. Sometimes it is pure agony to have the poison excised from the wound. That is a small price to pay. And it will not always be that hard. But we have to choose we are done with PMO forever and will not go back to it, no matter what.

It is ALWAYS a choice to view P and to MO. We CAN choose differently, in Christ. We often do not. Why? Answering that question is a great place to start the journey.

We are here to support you along the way. We will cheer you on, God himself will empower you, but you must take the steps.
