Where is @Alexander?

If you look at any public personality, once they rise beyond the modern equivalent of “locally recognized,” to be honest, it becomes very difficult to maintain connection to everyone, and that’s assuming your main job is to be the personality. If the personality is but one facet, it becomes near impossible.

One podcast I listen to, the person admits he doesn’t check his Facebook or Twitter himself (if he even still has them - he announced months ago he was scaling back social media presence). He’s hired someone to manage all that. Every August, he tries to complete an “electronics free” month. He unplugs. He of course gets the whole month in the can ahead of time.

Another way to look at it - Think of a TV or radio personality, maybe someone on your morning radio station show, a talk radio personality, a host on a daily sports network program, or even a TV talk show.

They may produce 1-3 hours per day of actual content. And yet most of their time is eaten up with their talent rep, advertising, prep, research, legal, outreach projects, etc. And that’s before they think about being a real human person with a life like we do. Friends and family time, eating out, cooking, entertainment and amusement, and so on.

Again speaking as a private user, if he isn’t very active here, it’s probably because of his life balance focusing on other priorities.

Now, for a moment, speaking as a Moderator, NoFap Twitter posts for instance go out generally daily. Likewise, NoFap has started call groups to join, and so on.

@ShadyPerson makes a great point. Movements should center around an idea, not a person. I joined NoFap having virtually no idea of who Alexander was. The only reason I knew of him at all was because he was referenced from either the book I read or the podcast I listened to. Even more importantly, unlike movements, people can either fail or be brought down relatively easily. I am reminded of the former cyclist Lance Armstrong. He was known for having won seven consecutive Tour de France titles, but had all those wins, plus many others, stricken from the record when a case had been made against him for extensive cheating involving doping. As a result, he declined to defend against the charges, which as I understand didn’t admit guilt, but enabled action to be taken against him. I mention that to point out that the charitable organization he founded, Livestrong, was able to survive his scandal primarily due their ability to sever and distance themselves from Mr. Armstrong.
