If you get fired they have to hand you a paycheck immediately.

In California, if they didn't give you your check, you go in for your next shift then they have to give you what's called Reporting Time (2 hours additional pay). Check your state.

Either way, apply for unemployment the moment you get that check man, you get unemployment payout starting on your application date, not on your fire date.
