Quitting alcohol and porn at the same time?

I was wondering if anybody here quit alcohol and PMO addiction at the same time? What were your experiences and how did you manage the double withdrawal from 2 drugs at the same time?

Any advice on how to successfully beat this?

Already before Corona I drank my fair amount of alcohol, but at least I could limit it to weekends only. But then with the Corona lockdown and unemployment my alcohol consumption went through the roof. Sitting at home, lonely and without any need to get up the next day, it is just so tempting to grab a couple bottles to take the edge off.

Since April I also started tracking it carefully. From April until now September I drink 80-120 beers per month. Basically like 3-4 beers every single evening.

I suspect this amount is already dangerous? And every doctor would probably tell me I got an alcohol addiction problem?

I feel like those 2 addictions are closely connected. Like if I have a hangover from too much alcohol, my urge to watch porn the next day is unbearable and I relapse hard. I don't know why this happens, but I experience this all of the time. I have this feeling that it is entirely impossible to quit porn, if not quitting alcohol before.

Anybody can relate? How did you get in charge of that?

I even thought about consulting a psychiatrist, because I feel like I'm slowly losing control of my alcohol consumption.

I cannot relate with the alcohol part anylonger, but I can tell you, that my streaks came from 10-15days to 0-1 after quiting weed, before that, quiting alcohol made my weed consumption skyrocket, and now after removing weed, my caffeine and tobacco addiction grew stronger, I would like to tackle PMO, caffeine and tobacco at once, but indeed if I stopped either of them the remaining ones go complete out of hand.

It feels like I always going to be addicted to something, my approach is trying to get positive/constructive outlets, instead of destructive/damaging ones, is all about dopamine and a satisfaction mindset at the end of the day.

I would like to see if anyone can bring us further insights into this.

Yes, bro. I have done it. And even more addictions and withdrawals during this same timeframe of 2020.

I wrote a post about changing your environment which applies equally to alcohol. I could not have quit alcohol without the strategy I outline there.

The first problem is hedonism. You have to fundamentally reorient your relationship with the world. You cannot be a grown adult man and expect to experience endless pleasure and to desire its maximization at every opportunity. This is the root source of most of modern man's problems.

To do so, you need an alternative. Which basically means to be oriented towards meaning. You labor so that you achieve meaningful outcomes, not maximal pleasure. This is also accomplished through Philosophy, such as Plato or Confucius, and through any organized religion.

Next, you need to set yourself up for success by creating positive triggers around you. Here's an example: a weight bench and an olympic bar are positive triggers for fitness, so are kettlebells and pull-up bars, so are jump ropes, etc. You should fill your environment with positive triggers.

The same goes for negative triggers: remove them. No alcohol around, no junk food, and so on. And don't recreate negative triggering situations, like by locking the door when you are alone and then undressing in front of a screen. Don't create privacy when you are vulnerable to relapse to PMO. Instead be social and go in-public. I also detail this in the above three posts.

Also, you need to develop healthy habits and social life. Start getting forward momentum to replace the old bad habits. Start building skills and developing your body, mind and spirit. Do it socially and do it offline.

I can agree with you. Almost every time I've been hungover the urge to watch porn is almost unbearable, there's a high outcome that I relapse and most of the time it's on a Sunday. I try to really stay away from alcohol but all of my friends drink alcohol and I do appreciate the feeling of being a bit drunk, not smashed. Just a bit tipsy!

But I'm trying to do my best and just skip it overall, it's better to just quit drinking alcohol. There's a lot of things you can do without it :)

And btw! Thanks for the thread creation and all the posts in here, positive vibes, and great answers.

I went sober a few years prior to even being aware of Nofap and the effects of porn.

Alcohol lowers inhibitions, so for me, I can't imagine being able to hold out on no PMO while drinking. Granted, I've never put that to the test, and I never will.

IT´s easy AF to quit Alcohol so long as you dont have enablers around, the reason why I say this is case I experienced it, my uncle on the otherhand lives with a Alcohol addict and as a result of enabling he too is now a alcohol addict to a degree.

The biggest danger with alcohol is the enablers, the chicken meal follow up drink (a lot of dudes like alcohol with chicken) and soft drink Alcohol mixtures like Sommersby that also has sugar to get you hooked.
