Because of COVID, I'm solo in a dorm room basically all day with only my room to study in. In past semesters, it's been easier avoiding porn since I'd always go study in public places but now I often reset within seconds of getting distracted from work, right at my desk alone in my room. Is anybody on campus in a similar situation/have any advice on how to avoid triggers when most of the day is spent alone in the room? Thanks in advance.
I block the whone internte and whiteliste only the sites I need. I use cold turkey, until now I wasn't able to hack it and I was quite good at this. I lock the program and put the password in my mailbox and only open the internet, when I feel like having good discipline. That works quite good for some months now. Joining a Challenge and talking about nofap with others also helped me a lot. I wrote a manual how to do it here: https://forum.nofap.com/index.php?t...days-3-years-open.286824/page-22#post-2764182
I am not sure if your university allows it, but I try and go to the library to study as much as I can rather than be in my room. I also try and go outside at least once a day, whether it be on the way to the gym or just for a walk. Even if the weather is bad, go outside. Studies show that being outside makes people feel better, less stress, etc. When I had stronger urges before I gained more control of my mind, I would always go outside whenever an urge hit, just to get a new environment and have some time to think about what I really want. I also find having music playing helps. When I'm bored, instead of thinking about porn, I just listen to the music and that is a good distraction. Another big tip for overcoming this stuff, keep yourself busy and replace your porn habit with a new habit. This could be anything as long as it is a healthy habit like cooking or reading or rock climbing, etc. I know you can do it. I am rooting for you and I'll be back in this chat looking for your victory story. Feel free to message me if you need anything.
Our school library closes at 8:00pm, and I'm an evening studier but I also really enjoy evening walks so I guess I can just throw headphones in and take a lap if I start feeling urges... 10-15 minutes spent on a walk won't cut away from my work nearly as much as a pmo would. I spent a lot of time outside the last few days and have gone 3 days clean, but I have a serious few days of work ahead, so I'll keep this all in mind and I'll post back about how it goes! I appreciate your support.
Anything you can do to fill your time and replace your bad habit with a healthy one is progress. If leaving your dorm is not an option, throw on some music (as long as it is not triggering) and just relax. I would suggest slower, relaxing music that can help you just take a minute to be calm. Just lay on your bed, sit in your chair, and relax to clear your mind when you need a break from studying or get frustrated with anything.
