What exactly happens in the brain after quitting porn?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Oct 25, 2020.

  1. I have spent quite a bit of time reading the yourbrainonporn website but I still don't really understand what exactly happens when we quit porn. From what I understand, as you abstain from porn the neural pathways that are connected to porn start to weaken and this will eventually make it so you get aroused by normal stimuli again such as real women. Is this correct? I'm trying to really understand what exactly happens in the brain so I know that I am doing the correct things. Is there anyone who could explain it to me in layman's terms? At the moment I'm abstaining from all artificial stimuli, porn and masturbation and I don't use any drugs, not even caffeine or alcohol. I still use my phone to watch videos, browse forums and to talk to people but I avoid anything sexual.

Hey! Actually there is a protein called "DeltaFosB" which is responsible for remembering and desire to sth(especially drug and sexual stimuli). When you quit porn, this protein starts to breakdown slowly. So after a while(e.g. 6 month) your desire for porn is decreased noticeably. But the pathways remain(unfortunately) and a small stimulation is enough to sink you to porn again!
