Lowering Dopamine any advice

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by My Best self, Nov 1, 2020.

  1. I’m really trying to lower my dopamine levels for a better recovery I’m looking for some advice and tips

  2. It seems one of the things that I've learned a lot about recently is that basically ANYTHING on a smart phone is designed to give you dopamine bumps. A former Facebook executive goes around talking about how they would have meetings discussing how to exploit dopamine in the brain, Facebook apparently super took off after the introduction of the like button. ANY app you use will exploit your reward loop in the brain by trying to trigger dopamine release. If an app doesn't use it nowadays they either have a hard road ahead or are probably already doomed to failure as many would probably consider it boring. Basically, if you want to lower your dopamine levels I think it would be wise to start NoFap, it looks like you already have, and then cut out as much phone usage as you absolutely can. I would even go so far as to say cut out as much television and movies as you can as well. I myself am trying to phase out as much as possible. The phone will be very difficult for me as I am addicted to card trader apps as well, I absolutely do not want to get rid of them but I know I should. When I can't bring myself to just delete them I'm pretty sure there is a problem there. I will get around to it but I'm still new to NoFap and want to ease my brain off a little bit and not all at once. I suppose you will have to find the amount that is right for you. In the meantime, pay close attention to the apps you use and try to see where they are exciting you. If you don't feel you can give them up try turning off notifications for a starter so that you check them when you want to and not when prompted to do so. Remember as well that dopamine is there for a reason, we need to find healthy natural ways to induce a dopamine release and associate it with those activities. I got rid of Facebook and Twitter well over a year ago and don't miss them one bit. I would find myself having sat there scrolling for two hours on a day off not even realizing it had been that long. One thing that helped me get rid of those is understanding their political bias but that is for another conversation. Good luck! Stay Strong! Kick some ass!

Lock yourself in your room, close the curtains, isolate yourself, disconnect the internet and take some reserpine!

FOMO (Fear of missing out) is extremely addicting. Disconnecting the internet cuts you away from new information which is obtained from the online world. New information is dopamine producing equivalent to solving a complicated math problem.

I know, I was somewhat sarcastic. He asked to lower his dopamine levels, so I gave him an answer. Some people even think staying away from music will hinder their revovery, because music elevates dopamine lol. For some people NoFap is like this anti dopamine and precious dopamine receptor cult. There is far more going on actually. Shrunken dopamine producing neurons in ventral tegmental area, lower expression of dopamine transporters, increased dopaminergic D1 and NDMA, AMPA glutametergic receptors in the sensitized addiction pathways from VTA - NAcc to PFC. Nothing wrong with a bit if dopamine here and there, as long it's not coming from the sensitized pathways and activating the sensitized D1R and accumulating the transcription factor DeltaFosB, keeping the brain in an addicted craving state for more porn...
