Exercise makes urges worse?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Gallade_Templar, Nov 30, 2020.

  1. Hey everyone. A hard-mode PMO rebooter here, hoping you can help me out with something that's been bugging me for a while.

I was first introduced to long-distance running about 4 years ago. I fell in love with it almost immediately and since then it's become a regular part of my lifestyle, running 6-7 miles at least three times a week, sometimes more or for longer distances like 9 miles.

When I began my rebooting process about two months ago, one thing I saw over and over was that exercise was supposed to help. It's a productive, healthy habit we can use to replace PMO in our lives and channel our excess energy. I thought this was great news, since something that I already loved could help me get my life back together.

The problem is, it hasn't been working for me. In fact, I've found that it's usually the opposite. I'm at my most vulnerable against PMO urges right after a nice, long, exhausting run. Does anybody know why this is happening? Is there anything I can do about it?

Ya the key word is exhausting, are willpower is limited so more likely to make the wrong decisions when the mind is tired. This is a hard journey dont underestimate a simple walk form time to time when you are triggered and reduce running a bit.

  3. This might have something to do with either food or alcohol. Because sports is always good. Did you eat junk food since yesterday? Sugar creates big urges that win over sports no matter how hard you went.
It might also be that this long running created a dopamine rush, since you like it, and it now acts like an urge. You just need to overcome it -meditation, breathing, focusing on reading or something- it will go away and you will be way better than before. But your diet has to be impeccable. If it is, it's just a bad time to go through.
Also, you might wanna try gym. Push-ups, weights, that type of exercises KILLS urges. Stay strong

  4. Thanks for the input. I've never drank alcohol in my life so that can't be it. Junk food intake is usually pretty low but I can keep an eye on it.

Cardio has always been my preferred exercise, never been a weightlifting/bodybuilding kind of guy, but I know my brother lifts some weights from time to time. Anything's worth a shot.
