50 days and how it have been so far

Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by NF SINCE BIRTH, Dec 3, 2020.

  1. I posted in here a couple days ago but I didnt go much into detail about how I came to this point. I joined Nofap in 2012 and have been trying to quit ever since. Before we begin, please read my 90 day success story from 2017 before I had to change my name from Nofapsincebirth to my current one due to troubles with the mod team.

I have been an addict for most of my life. Got introduced to porn at the age of 8. I think I was pretty hooked at 14. Joined Nofap in 2012 and it have been a lot of ups and downs. 4 suicide attempts, struggling with PTSD, Schizoaffective disorder, depersonalisation disorder and a bunch of other minor disorder under those larger umbrellas.

Just to be clear: Life can be Hell quite literally but it is no excuse to escape into the world of PMO.

My mantra have for a long time been: A life with PMO is not a life worth living. I have been taking it quite literally as one of my suicide attempts was after a relapse at 105 days and a binge cycle. No need to go to such extremes but it is true.

Life with PMO is dead, dreadful. You are escaping reality, you are running from your problems, running from life. You miss the actual life that is here right before you.

All your problems wont magically disappear after you reach a certain number of days. They are still very much there. The difference is that you are dealing with them instead of escaping them.

I wont list up all the positive stuff I have experienced since starting this streak. You can read about it about anywhere and it is true. Nofap changes you. It makes you stronger. Like a cliff. It is not just self confidence. You will feel more alive. When you meditate you will start to see what meditation really is about because you can finally focus.

Not much more to say at this point. I am at 50 days but I dont feel recovered and I have miles left to go in every aspect of my life. But it is a good beginning. And I see what I did wrong earlier. I made Nofap a big part of my identity. It isnt anymore. I am not afraid of committing for life like I was back in 2017.

Good luck to all of you. See you again at 90 days!

  3. Great insight, thanks for sharing. So cool of you to figure out that NoFap had itself become part of your identity, and that lead to the depression and Suicide attempt. I’m so glad to hear that you are still with us and have even come out from it understanding yourself more.
PMO is indeed basically an unhealthy coping mechanism. We use it to feel better when we are feeling down for some reason, instead of dealing with our problems. I’m not trying to oversimplify it, I’m just trying to explain it. The reason guys develop the “superpowers” talked about here is because when we stop PMOing, we usually start dealing with problems in better ways and that makes us more healthy people in general, and more healthy people don’t need porn or masturbation to feel good about themselves.
On a slightly separate note, are you doing anything else to take care of your mental health? It sounds like you’ve got a lot going on, I think I would be totally overwhelmed if I tried to handle all that without some significant help.

You seem very conscious about all the ups and downs that NoFap brings with it. This confront with our own vulnerabilities and problems can be very overwhelming sometimes, and even a long streak can end abruptly due to this. You never loose the battle, as long you keep fighting, again and again. All the best and good job until here!

Days 53 to 70 were the hardest for me - lots of new temptations and urges. I almost lapsed. The 80s are feeling strong. Best wishes!

  6. So true. There is no magic pill. There are things that work, if you are willing to put in the effort, and the great thing about NoFap is the resources and the community. Especially since porn addiction has an (understandable) stigma to it, people often don’t talk about it early on before it becomes an addiction. Also, since our culture and world have become so hypersexualized and that’s become so accepted, it was/is still considered strange that someone would want to show restraint of any kind regarding sexuality (think of how much of a hard time any Christian or any person for that matter is given for striving to save themselves for marriage- people laugh at them like it’s a joke) just adding to the complications of talking about it.
Think about it. Someone who is thinking about their porn usage as perhaps too much, or even has questions about it, can’t talk to conservative people who view porn as bad because they are admitting to doing something the other person doesn’t approve of. But they can’t talk to other people who approve of porn because “porn is so great why would anybody want to stop or tone it down??” Its a perfect setup for habitual use.
Such a deplorable habit and addiction we are fighting!
    be strong,

  7. Thanks for your concern :) yea I am getting significant help to function on a daily basis. 2 visits a day by emergency psych team and I have a number I can call at night. I am hospitalized for 1 week a month and I am talking with a specialist twice a week.

This is it brother. I started 1,5 years ago and I thought I would be cured after 90 days, but the thing is, NoFap isn’t for 90 days. NoFap is for life !
I realized this about 2 months ago.
I’m seriously never going to watch porn again (at least I hope). I want the real deal, not that crap on the internet.

I’m sincerely happy you are still with us. Life is beautifull bro, enjoy it to the fullest !

The best of luck to you <3
