This article ought to make all of us think twice before consuming porn again.

Opinion | The Children of Pornhub - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Warning, some of the stories in this article could be triggering for some readers.

    UPDATES:

Quite a bit more has been going on since this NYT article was posted. If anyone is interested, here's a list:

(For those who don't know, MindGeek is the parent company of Pornhub as well as thousands of other porn websites)

    • December 4, 2020: The New York Times publishes an expose revealing the magnitude of Pornhub’s crimes regarding child sexual abuse material and other harmful content.
    • December 8, 2020: Pornhub announces changes including banning downloads, only allowing verified users to upload content, and expanded content moderating.
    • December 10, 2020: Visa and Mastercard sever ties with Pornhub within hours of each other and both agree to remove partnership with all MindGeek-owned companies pending further investigation.
    • December 11, 2020: Discover follows closely behind as the major credit card company removes payment processing from Pornhub.
    • December 11, 2020: Executives at MindGeek are called to testify in an investigation announced by Canadian Parliament.
    • December 14, 2020: Pornhub purges over 10 million videos from their site and counting. MindGeek announces these changes will take place across all of their sites (which is most of the free pornography websites)

Just goes to show that billion dollar industries are untouchable. Rules apparently don’t apply to them.

This is big news, and I am very happy to see increased scrutiny about the porn industry, especially violent, underage, abusive types of porn.

And I just don't get the libertarians who consider regulations to be censorship. In a society without laws you have the most brutalist and crime ridden situations where life gets cheaper and cheaper. I've encountered enough nihilists and anarchists to last a lifetime and have little sympathy for such orientations that are just crazy.
