After a pretty painful breakup, which was in part due to watching porn in secret after my partner told me she wasn’t cool with it, I made the decision to give up porn completely. (A case of “love didn’t make me stop, losing it did).

I have been porn free since early August and it’s actually been relatively easy.

I slipped up in mid-November and purposely seeked out a movie I knew would have a lot of nudity/sex scenes in November, and the shame I felt after that slip up, I have not had any desire at all to seek nudity/porn out since.

What I am struggling with is porn replacements. Instagram models, music videos etc with a lot of skins.

Even worse now, I am looking into porn alternatives that I am finding very problematic that have never been an issue before - SOME YouTube yoga instructors (ones I’ve never done practises with, just going down a rabbit hole), friends that do burlesque and have instragram, and a friend with an only fans account - I have never been sexually aroused by these things before, but I’m worried that because I’m no longer having sex regularity or looking at porn, my brain is seeking something else.

Has anyone had this problem? How long did it last for you and what did you do about it?

It happened very often to me too, you know what's the worst? Whether the beginning may seem like that of the videos or the images, to use the term "softer" actually, as soon as this search starts, the porn will come back.

What I can tell you is not to be fooled by these thoughts, from my experience what happens is the replacement of a new obsession, and then inexorably return to porn; as the mind will never be fully satisfied.

Don't use what can take you on the old road, even if it seems harmless, use Internet restrictions and blocks, it can help you.

Staying free is the goal, come on brother @DaleEarnhartJr I'm with you.

The strange thing is even during these times where I go down a rabbit hole of Instagram or other non nudes, I haven’t once had the urge to view hardcore porn. I know it’s always a possibility. Maybe there’s just so much pain front the break up and shame that porn is just kind of scary right now.

Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Yeah thats the beginning of the stages of pmo withdrawal. Your training your body to refrain from pmo so your mind is tricking you to get your fix without technically breaking your oath. Its kinda like your convincing yourself in a way that looking at yoga videos and insta sluts is harmless and okay but its far from.

This is a positive thing, and you have to be proud of the freedom you are attaining, but don't be fooled by what appears harmless as "soft". The process of the mind is the same.

Keep on the right path, you are not alone.

This is something I have struggled with for a long time. I cut out P from my life for about a year. But would continually get sucked into softer stuff thinking its not as bad. And as others have said, this eventually led to using P again. I now realize as @blacklabel92 , its my mind trying to come up with work arounds but really its making things worse.

Psubs or edging. It's all the same to the addict brain.

Since you've cut off the mass transit expressways of direct high intensity novel neverending dopemine hits by abstaining from porn, your brain (which formed a chemical dependence) is forming new nueropathways and connections to delivery it's craven hits.
Your brain wants what it wants.
    In moments of.
    • Boredom
    • Loneliness
    • Anger
    • Stress
    • Hurt
    • Stress
    • Fear
    • Tiredness
We seek to sooth. Dopamine and other hormones relieve this uncomfortability.

Like others have said, since your conviction and resolve has stopped porn, the weaker self tries to create alternatives to keep the drip coming. This is a form of denial and justification to actually never remove the self-induced dependence on brain chemicals for relief. They just change forms. Sad to say, as long as you keep Porn Subs in your life and walk the Edge you will relaspe. It's too close for comfort not to.

So great job on stopping P this far, incredible feat, you should feel proud. Next step, live intentional every day. Don't kid yourself into replacements. Your brain will deceive you, it has for years.

Best of luck, I am excited to see how you succeed moving forward!

You’re all so awesome. Thank you. I am limiting my Instagram use to a couple minutes a day and not clicking the “search” microscope incase anything comes up that is bad. I also keep my yoga to the same 3 teachers which have no sort of attraction/sexual desire (sounds kind of awful saying that, but if I’m not attracted, I’m not attracted...)

I think this is a good rrule for now, but if I find myself slipping from these rules, I’ll go stricter (no Instagram...only male yoga teachers?)

Now the other thing I’m worried about is I watch pro wrestling and sometimes female wrestlers wear some pretty revealing stuff. It never phased me before, but since giving up P, I’ve noticed myself being more sexually attracted. Maybe I just need to change the channel until its “safe”.

it’s incredibly difficult to balance healthy being attracted/thinking people are hot and it being a P substitute. Like if I just look and think “shes hot” and it doesn’t lead to M or further soft or hardcore P, is it dangerous?

Of course @DaleEarnhartJr , it's not possible to live with blinders on and not see anything around us.

But, in my opinion, there is a difference between:

    "This situation/image happened to me."
    And;
"This situation/image happened to me, interesting, it's not bad, wait a bit, looks so nice, let's do a detailed research etc."

Experiment what can bother you and lead you astray, if you are worried move away and see what happens.

    Enjoy your day.

Same here. I'm a big MMA fan and I am very mindful of my urges when there are two hot female fighters on the fight card. I plan to change the channel when I feel the temptation.

What I've done is to go through who I'm following on a day I'm feeling strong and unfollow any that have revealing pictures on their Instagram. I have been pruning my follows for a while now. I didn't realize how many accounts I followed. I have also unfollowed any account that has bikini pictures on their Instagram. I also limit my Instagram use to five minutes a day.

This is one of my weak spots. I used to follow several female wrestlers on Instagram but when they became triggering, I had to unfollow all of them. I may follow them for a few months in the future when I become stronger. I have decided to not watch wrestling and just read the results of the shows on a wrestling website. To me, it's respecting my triggers. i hope some of this helps. Have a terrific new year!!!

I actually deleted my Instagram completely a few months ago and started a new one. All I do is follow friends and record blogs. No female wrestlers, no yoga (some have only fans now?), no pornstars, no men’s magaZines. The only things that ever come up in search is occasional female wrestlers and that is why I don’t look at search anymore.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences all. I wish I had done this 2 years ago.

My opinion (and only that, for what it’s worth) is that porn addicts are sex addicts. Porn is our cocktail of choice, but without it we will seek other sexual stimulants, sometimes telling ourselves the lie that they are “innocent.”

Such substitutes lead only one way, and it’s not to sobriety.

An alcoholic is not in recovery simply because he is sipping wine instead of aftershave lotion.

No no. I haven’t ever opened it and deleted her from IG as well. Haven’t looked at her profile in months either. Just feeling temptations from time to time. The temptation hasn’t come once since making my original post though.

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole on the gram last night. No PMO but looking at models and exs. Felt pretty awful about it. Whatever joy I get from the gram isn’t worth potential relapse and losing all the progress so I deleted and will not be downloading again.

The Spanish TV shows on Netflix have a lot of sexy women in them, I slipped up after watching a few episodes. After that I realized that the show is stupid, and I stopped watching it...
