Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I am 35 years old male.
Today while surfing on the internet I found this amazing community which I really think can overcome my addiction from Porn and masturbation. The articles given in this website have some very good information. I am suffering from this from almost 15 years may be more now. I tried number of ways to quit but all in vain till now.
I believe that this is the main cause of having my low self esteem. Whenever I try to build my self confidence one relapse kills it all. But I want to give one more try and will keep on trying till I completely overcomes it.
I have created below strategy this time and will start with 30 day challenge.
    • No phone or Laptop after 9 PM. I have found that whenever I am working on laptop alone in night it takes just few seconds for me to relapse. So no phone and laptop after 9 PM
    • Whenever there is urge do 5-10 pushups and calm myself.
    • Limit the time I spend on Facebook. Just 5 mins per day. No instagram at all.
    • No online web series from Netflix on any other OTT.
    • Try to understand the science behind this addiction.
    • keep a watch on my awareness whenever it drifts away try to bring it back to my goal calmly and politely.
I know this journey is not going to be easy but I am determined to succeed. Wish me luck guys and also will need help from all of you to achieve my goal.

  2. Hey, welcome, great you found us ... It's definitely a good place to be if you want to get off the hook. You'll find lots read, you can share, give and get support, find buddies, accountability and recovery partners. Your strategy looks good indeed. And great you are starting a 30 day challenge with it right away. Hang in there, stay strong and grow, get that mind sober and clear. Yee haw!

Congratulations on what you have accomplished so far. This NoFap community is very supportive. Would also encourage you to work with others, e.g. therapist, NoFap group or other support group, to provide that needed support and accountability. Much harder to conquer this alone.

Completed my first day. Was in full control today. Did not let my awareness to drift away in that direction. No phone and laptop after 9 PM is really helpful. I don't want to work alone in my laptop at night. Weekdays are easy. It's the weekends when I need to be very careful.

I wish you success in restarting, I am also my weakness at the weekend, but after I learned how the brain works with this addiction, I got stronger than before, I now have 13 days, and one week off,
    Let's all collaborate on this

Thanks Kamal for your response. Plz let me know any tips to avoid weekend trap. I have created a strong statement in notes app of my mobile which reminds me the hell i go thorough if I give up. I read it as many times as possible. It's really helping. Yeah completed my day 3.

  11. When things seem to get overwhelming on the weekend what can help is go by the hour. Hour by hour. In the next hour I promise to stay away. Just this next hour.
Urges, thoughts come and go. In waves or some other form. But they never stay. Practice to become the witnesser of those urges, thoughts. Not getting swept away by the content, never indulging.
Focus on healthy behavior you want to do. Get yourself busy.

  12. If I may chime in: That is a really good idea, but only one side of the coin. You don't just wanna stay in that negative view and paint a dark picture of your future should you give up. Do the opposite too. Write just as strong a statement or vision of what your future will look like if you don't give up. That way you'll have one negative vision to scare you away from PMO, and one positive vision to improve yourself and to know what it is you're fighting for.

I advise you to read or see how the brain works with porn addiction, how to sort out dopamine, the feeling that faces the process of withdrawal from this addiction, and that these effects are only temporary, and when you exceed the interval, which can be 90 days, this knowledge will facilitate you. The process of quitting porn easily, every negative feeling will end, and you will succeed and feel the joy of victory and success,
    Be strong

Thanks for your comment. That's really a great advise. So while reading my strong statement it's kind of also realises me that what I am missing in my life. But yeah I will also have a positive statement of what I will achieve after overcoming this. Thanks really for your valuable advise.

To keep yourself busy is very important here. I have found that earlier when I don't have anything to do over weekends I easily give up. But I have learnt this lesson now. Also very good point regarding learning how brain works. I will surely read about it.
I am really liking this community thanks again for your help and sharing your experiences

Well it's a weekend and I was almost about to fail. I came to my room where there in no one started working on my laptop and immediately started looking at P. This is against the rule I have set for myself. No laptop/phone after 9 PM. Though after watching for some minutes I was able to control my urges and started reading the PDF which I have got from Nofap over the email. It really helped me a lot to gain my control back. And made change to my rule that instead of 9 PM, I will not be watching laptop after 8 PM. Important point from that guide is take one day at a time. Rather than thinking about your challenge for so many days just take each day separately and try to follow the rules for that day and repeat. I will get success.

Not able to control my urge if I am sitting infront of my laptop after 8 PM. Again watched P for few mins then diverted my mind. But some damage is already done though not complete. This my weakest link and really vulnerable at this time. Not sure what can be done. Why I easily switch my Browser to private mode?? Plz I want to get out from it. No laptop after 8 PM

Can you set a filter on your computer and have a family member or friend be the one in control of the password? Concerned that setting an arbitrary time for no computer (i.e. after 8 or 9) still leaves lots of room for temptation and work arounds. Would also suggest putting a picture of family, significant other, or someone special as a screen saver on your laptop, which might also serve as a reminder to help fight off an urge when it comes. Also would encourage you to involve others to help you overcome this, whether that be a NoFap group that meets weekly (I'm trying that and it helps), counseling/therapist, SAA group or whatever. We get into this addiction by isolating, withdrawing and in secrecy, and it is less likely to be overcome individually and in isolation.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your story! You're not alone.
This is an addiction you know and NO ADDICT to any drug has ever gotten sober alone. NO ONE. In fact confession, accountability, sponsorship, AP is the foundation of AA. The 12 steps.. so my question is: does anyone know about your addiction??! You need to confess. That was the 1st step I made to start my recovery. You should start to think about a person, a really good friend or family member who you trust and love. It gonna take time, courage and it gonna be sooo hard and embarrasing to do it but also going to be so healing. It took me 6 years to do it but when I did it.. my life changed..
I use BlockSite at my pc and parental control with code at my iPhone.. . blockers can help to stop the urge but discipline gonna help to go sober everyday..
I recommend this post.. It helped me a looot.. Take your time, take notes: https://forum.nofap.com/index.php?t...te-my-dopamine-receptors.166287/#post-1410049

Anddd if you relapsed.. update your counter, set a new goal and work hard!
    You got this.
    Good luck!

I have to reset my counter after 14 days. Really going from that bad useless feeling. It's a trap, a cycle never ending. But I will start again today. Will follow the plan I have made for myself. My vulnerability is alone with laptop. I have made a point not to be sitting alone after 8 PM but still some days cannot control. Not sure how to control the urge. I also know If i do it for 3-4 weeks I will be able to control this urge. But point is how to control in that moment. I will try the technique of counting till 6 and then reverse and visualising the numbers.Hoping to put all this behind this time
