A Scripture a Day...

For Fapstronauts who are disciples of Christ

  1. Train yourself in godliness for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
    1 Tim. 4:7-8

    Let's keep training, brothers in arms!!:emoji_shield::emoji_crossed_swords:

    8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.
    9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’
    10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good,
    and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

    2 Corinthians 5:1-10

    For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

    Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.

    For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

    Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

    So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord,

    For we live by faith, not by sight.

    We are of good courage, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

    So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

    For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

    Psalm 119:140-144

    Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.

    Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.

    Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.

    Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.

    Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live.

    1 Kings 17:1-6

    Now Elijah the Tishbite of Tishbe in Gilead said to Ahab, "As the LORD the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word." The word of the LORD came to him, saying, "Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the wadi.

    We must be like Elijah, relying on the LORD day by day, to give us our daily bread as we fight our porn addiction. Particularly for those of us who are single, we are indeed living through a drought, but trust in the LORD and He will sustain us.

    do not refuse me before I die:
    8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
    give me neither poverty nor riches,
    but give me only my daily bread.
    9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
    and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
    Or I may become poor and steal,
    and so dishonor the name of my God.

    I feel this is the issue with ''developed countries'' nowadays. Yes poverty is terrible, and we should do everything we can to help out poor people/countries. But it seems like here in the west more and more people grow further away from God exactly because of what is said in this verse. We have too much

    “When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor but never drove them out completely.”

    “The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this? And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; they will become traps for you, and their gods will become snares to you.’ ””
    ‭‭
    I’ve been reading an excellent devotional by Dr Michael Youssef on the book of Judges and thought I’d share (the verses above are for context).

    Dr Youssef first points out how God warned of the “moral and spiritual pollution” of the Canaanites and their gods. And summarises the slippery slope the Israelites found themselves on - first mingling and trading with them, and finally leading to the Israelites intermarrying and worshiping the pagan idols.

    These few points really resonated with me:
    “ The Israelites set themselves up for decline and collapse when they failed to obey God’s commandments. They settled for half a victory....Have we settled for half a victory over our sin and self-defeating habits?...Do we excuse our vices or are we committed to complete victory over them by driving them out of our lives? These “small” compromises are an accommodation with the enemy. We are symbolically mingling and intermarrying with the Canaanites...”

    I am praying for us all that we continue to wholeheartedly fight for a full victory over our addiction!

    That's really helpful stuff. I agree we are symbolically mingling and intermarrying with the Canaanites when enagaging with porn and other lustful endevaeors. In the past I have often got annoyed with God because of how hard it is to stay the course and remain on the path of righteousness. Like "why God did you allow me to be alive during this era knowing full well my struggles with porn. I feel like it is these things pulling me away from you, controlling me, turning me into something I hate and which represents something you hate, why!".

    But I think the reality is we are overcomers. God has given us and will continue to give us everything we need to combat Porn and let's not forget the battle belongs to the Lord so the majority of the work of overcoming is done by God. Our job in this is full submission to God everyday and accounability with other brothers and sisters. I really am coming back to figuring out what a surrenderd life looks like. I got so ashamed to even say the word 'surrender' to God because I just felt like I would fail him and so I have lived in a place of shame, full of doubts and hurt. God doesn't want this. In the same way he wanted his people, the israelities to be free and follow his commands, he desires this for us too.

    And it is possible! For me its been coming back to these core truths and giving my full 'yes' to them, to actually believe in them again. To really take thoughts captive! To allow God everyday to renew my mind and breakdown the strongholds of the enemy inside my mind - to remove brain fog, to remove dirty images and cleanse me.

    This last 4 days I have fasted for the first time in years as a way of beginning to get back in the habit of not always feeding my flesh what it desires and allowing space for God to reawken my spirit and speak to me! Everything of my life is on the table before him.

    It's realising obeying Gods commandments is freedom! Obeying his commandments brings joy and life! We need to die to lie that Gods commandments are boring or hard. It's not about wilpower but about submission. Let's pray that we all turn away from our idols and continue this battle in joy and not in our own strife! Let's pray unlike the israelities that we stop going down the slop of sinful deseries. And as we go on this journey, may we all return to a place of true worship - to give up our bodies, our minds, our hearts and our souls as living sacrifices to Jesus. As we do this, may the Lord honour this sacrifice and cleanse out our dirty, messy temples and fill us anew with his presense and his kindgom desires. May we build his kingdom and knock down the kingdom of lust.

    I am very happy to see this. Thank you for sharing such wise insight :) "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" because we grant the devil leverage if we do... It is indeed a slippery slope. May we build God's kingdom, may it be our sole desire, amen.

    1 Chronicles 11:17-19a

    David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!”

    So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord. “God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?”

    Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.

    Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

    Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
    Who may live on your holy mountain?

    The one whose walk is blameless,
    who does what is righteous,
    who speaks the truth from their heart;
    whose tongue utters no slander,
    who does no wrong to a neighbor
    and casts no slur on others;
    who despises a vile person
    but honors those who fear the Lord;
    who keeps an oath even when it hurts,

    who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
