Porn Viewing vs Full PMO Edging

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by GrowingStronger, Mar 16, 2021.

  1. So I've been documenting my journey in detail over the past year a bit. (My tag is false because I've not been back on the site in some time. I'm one day 1 again and never got beyond 14.

But anyways, I have a rating system I made for myself to incentivize myself to spend less time watching when I do fail and watch. And overall it has worked decently well. My worst month averaging 71min a day, and my best being 19min a day. It gave me a lot of my life back since I was not strong enough to fully quit (couldn't handle the catastrophic effect it had on my sleep and the anxiety issues that came with it). I learned some small things to take back my time as a partial addict were to have my own personal stash, rather than go online when I failed. It made me spend 20min or less rather than upwards of 2hrs because my collection isn't designed for clickbait and user retention.

March has been catastrophic for me though. I found some arousing pictures on Pinterest and went down 5hr rabbit holes of just looking at some clothing models. Now atm I'm counting every minute of this in my average for the month, but at the same time is it really as bad as a 5Hr PMO edging session?

I know it's bad and shouldn't be discounted as nothing. But what do you guys think is the equivalence? Is it best to treat it 1:1 since porn/oogling hot ladies online is the main issue, or should I be setting it as 0.5:1 or something?

Anyways this might just be my addict brain looking for an excuse to rationalize my epic failure during the last 2 days which if counted 1:1 are just barely behind the worst day I have on record since I started recording data. =(

Dude, drop the math - recovery is not an equation to be solved, there is nothing to calculate. If you haven't watched porn = good. If you are edging, make efforts to minimize it since it will make it harder for you to remain sober. Ask yourself how you are feeling when you feel the urge to edge. What can you do instead to take better care of yourself?

  3. I don't know man. Do you think really works.

I guess all improvement is good, but still, porn itself is like a drug, I would worry

You have minimized the usage of porn which is very good. Sometimes small steps are better, if you are not prepared for big change. But try to eventually drop this crap completely.
I must admit for me also counting time wasted on watching this crap really got me into nofap seriously.

It's interesting how, when facing problems quitting altogether, you are at least making an effort to reduce your usage and hold yourself accountable for it.
I think that any step in the right direction is good, but try not to get lost in the details and forget what the real goal is, which is to stop watching porn for good.

To address your question there, I think any habit that feeds from the same thing that porn does should be avoided just as hard as you avoid hardcore porn. But then again, it's your own system that you made so no one better than yourself to know what's best to keep you motivated and on the right path.

Again, just make sure that all this accounting and efforts to reduce the average don't distract you too much from the real work that you need to put on yourself and your life. That path of introspection and personal growth is what's really going to get you away from your bad habits.

    Wish you the best!

I tried this approach for a long time reasoning two minutes of staring at porn was probably less of an issue than a relapse but I was staring at two minutes of porn a lot and I wasn't really recovering. It's a trick our addicted mind plays on us to convince us that we can watch a little porn without any damage being done but it's not true.
If you want to genuinely unlock the benefits and advantages of being PMO-free then it's going to have to be a case of cold turkey, blocking porn, deleting saved porn files and quitting masturbation for your recovery period, that's the cold hard truth.
That said, any cutting down in porn time is a positive move, as is limiting masturbation.
