Background: My husband has porn addiction and a gaming addiction. He is currently a pipefitter in the fire sprinkler industry. He often hates his job.

So, we are talking about moving over 100 miles away to the country where I will work at a small town school. He will not have a job if we do. I will be making a lot less money so things like "daycare" are not an option. About the only option is for my husband to stay at home and take care of the baby until he gets a job. I am worried though that it will be easy for him to give-in to the addictions...

I'm just wanting some feedback. Are there any stay-at-home parents out there with these addictions? Do you have any advice for preventing big relapses in this case? Should I not even consider it?

    I would appreciate any thoughts.

I know from experience that active participation in family life, and being under (potential) watch is obviously a strong deterring factor. After all, we addicts need an external purpose in our miserable lives to get out of the addiction.

But then, at the end of the day, he has to figure out methods of self-control on his own anyway...

How about a CCTV in your house? Nah, kidding.

they say idle hands is the devils playground...I work from home, drop off and pick up kids, feed them. It’s def a lot more time but it really comes down to you have to want it. And even then it ain’t promised. I know a guy that was in IT making 6 figures said he had to leave because too much access to computers and took a plumbing job for a lot less. We don’t really know how bad the addiction is and we all have our own journey with a ton of similarities. I would focus on a work from home job for him, maybe part time. With corona we’re seeing a lot of jobs can be done remotely. Def some type of group or program once your in the country focusing on recovery because that isolation is not our friend. I used to date athletes so I could be a stay at home dad. Let’s just say be careful what you wish for. Good luck though, praying for you!

I would say this will just give him plenty of time to get more addicted. I'd either not take the job or find a way to leave him so you can take it without this fear. I wish I'd left so many years ago.
