Sounds like a plan. I will pray the Rule of St. Pachomius on my prayer rope, as well as hopefully continuing with my daily prayer services.

Welcome mchlarchangel! Best of luck in your efforts. As you can see, we're doing a Rosary/Prayer Rule challenge starting tomorrow for 7 days, which you're welcome to join.

Cheers Ze'ev, I would be keen to pray the rosary for our intentions, I think that praying for each other is a good idea. Still navigating around this site. Some really great testimonies. I will post something soon about my own journey, I think that would be helpful for me.

@mchlarchangel , good to have you. Feel free to post your testimony here, but I also highly suggest making your own NoFap journal thread. It has been very helpful for many of us.

I prayed the Rule of St. Pachomius today (which primarily consists of the Jesus Prayer as the repeated prayer). Thinking of you all. Blessings in Christ!

I received the sacrament of reconciliation today, since falling off the wagon a few days ago and am feeling peaceful and close to Jesus again. Usually if I am confessing sins against chastity I can be a bit vague about it as I feel so shameful talking about it. Today I talked with the the priest about how I think pornography and masterbation are a problem for me. It was good to fully disclose and be open and honest with him ( it probably helped that I was out of town and was not talking to one of the priests in my parish who all know me very well). Does anyone else struggle with confessing these sins? The priest was very supportive and gave me some great advice, so I am feeling rather encouraged. I have not had time to start a journal as my PhD is really fighting for my time but it has been really helpful to go through some of the material that you guys have posted and of course sharing your own journeys has also been really helpful. Peace... M

I have never been able to confess these things. I have planned to do this out of town, as you did, for that very reason. You've nudged me a step closer to going.

I didn't do my Rule yesterday as I was dealing with some depressive emotions, but I did it today.

Glad to see you're back at it Ze'ev. I hope you're feeling better. @AllanTheCowboy , I know how you feel. I have only explicitly confessed it 3-4 times in my life. I think most or all of us find it hard to confess. But trust us when we say with 100% confidence that, honestly, it's not like you're going to REGRET confessing it. It will be a huge weight lifted off your very heart and soul. For a mix of spiritual and psychological reasons, opening up to a priest will open you up to true change. Humility is the first step toward greatness. Thus, there is nothing to fear from humility.

Here is a link to something Tony Litster puts out: a free series of 7 MP3s on a Christian response to porn addiction. It looks good at first glance, and I've liked Tony Litster's work so far. The link also offers four bonus MP3s, which normally would cost about $60 in total on his main site ( http://curethecraving.com/ ).

There might be some benefits from religion, but only if you take the right parts.
But unfortunately, I have no good memories to religion, and I'm sure they were more a part of the cause of my addiction, and not the solution.

As a child in the 70s, I was an 'altar boy' (servant/ministrant), and I and others were regularily "gently touched" by our priest (kissing in the neck, touching us all over with ...) Another "church helper" (he was around 50 years old) once offered me some money to go with him. I once told all that my parents and they smacked me so I would shut up.

That was the time when I began to disconnect from society and seeking pleasure and thrill (and in fact, I was seeking love) in porn magazines.

Sorry to hear your priest was so creepy. I don' want to pry, but you put it out here so I wanted to honor your experience by responding. Mind if I ask a couple of questions? Don't respond if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Were you traumatized from the said cleric, or just felt really uncomfortable? Do you still consider yourself Catholic ? I know from experience that the church has made a 180 turn since then? This is not a commercial for the Church, but they are very serious in their effort to bring healing to anyone victimized no mater when or by whoe it took place.

For better or worse there are a lot of experiences that contribut to the make up of our sexual identities. An examination of our histories help in our self knowledge which can lead greater acceptance and wholeness. ( ie. our own blessedness)
