My first interaction with social media was at the age of about 11 when I saved up some money to buy the cheapest tablet I could get. I found Youtube and was immediately hooked with the concept of it. I would spend hours watching gaming videos than trying then trying to replicate them on my games. Fun times.
The problem however began when I started getting adult-ish content in my recommended (this despite my parents putting an age limit on the content I can watch). My curiosity got the best of me and these videos became the regular content I owuld watch. Long story short, I discovered the world of pornography. It began with seeing simple images and gifs of half naked women until then my curiosity got the better of me and I began exploring porn sites. And so my downward spiral began.

Yes, I know that I would have been exposed to porn eventually the older I grew, however I think that I became hooked on it from so early due to discovering it from social media. It's frustrating to think that if I hadn't bought that tablet from such a young age I may or may not be in the shit I am in now.

On the other hand I can't blame my parents for being too naive about the dangers that social media can pose to the young and impressionable me as the technology was simply too new and foreign to be aware of.

The internet as a whole is not to blame either. In fact I personally believe that you can learn more from the internet than you can from school and traditional methods. The wealth of knowledge is just endless. However, social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and others are turning out to be a cancer of the modern society. Not just because of the generation of heavy porn users, but also because of the generation that grew up with a mentality of 'do anything to get those likes'. These sites have only been around for a little more than 20 years and their harmful effects on mental health can be felt already, just think what would happen after 50 or 100 years of letting this crap destroy our youth.

Is it just me, or do you guys have any similar experiences?

When I relapse I use twitter like a porn site. I would actually say twitter is potentially the number one site online that turns me on. Twitter and a cam site are the two most sites online that turn me on.

I mention this because twitter is not even categorized as a pornographic website. Yet it is still one of the most sites online that I am turned on by.

Yeah man same here but with insta. There are so many posts which are basically softcore porn that it can be classified as that.

Yes indeed. The root, I believe, is the nurturing of a compulsive behavior. Being compulsive is considered freedom. Combine that with a political atmosphere the warps everyone's minds and you've got yourself a money-making machine! Any opposition to anything that is media and entertainment related is an infringement of people's freedoms. We reap what we sow. Happy compulsive society! Don't touch yourself!

When you really want to quit porn, you have to quit social media. Social media is one of the gateway to porn because the AI knows what you really want based on your behavior. It is very insidious. And it wastes a lot of our time spending to click on trivial things.

I agree. When I quit P and was still doing M I’d sometimes use sites like IG telling myself “it’s not really porn.” Not true. It’s all the same shit at the end of the day. Cut all those apps out of my life and honestly it’s also saved me a ton of time from just mindlessly scrolling.

I found pron when I was 9 its ridiculous how young kids can get exposed to pornography so young. Nofap is helping with my porm addiction. Social media is also a tra and can lead you to porn very easily.

Excuse me, but what the F is it on those sites that is so porn-like? I genuinely don’t know, never had an account on any of those hellholes.

I’m an oldtimer, I discovered porn from night time sex phone (or whatever it’s called) and porn magazines found in the bushes! But as regards the social websites, I’m just so happy more and more young people are starting to see the mental poison behind those online temples of shallow exhibitionism. Though let’s not get overly optimistic, it’s still probably a 1% group.

Twitter has literal P on it. But also I think most people see social media as more of a trigger, impossible to avoid a lot of very revealing exhibitionist pictures which then leads to seeking more.
