what happens if a porn addict goes one solid year without porn or sleazy social media stuff. But they still masterbate. Will the brain still make lot’s of progress healing?

    Is this your goal?

I assume that there would be some healing to be honest. Porn I think is far worse than masturbation. But that is just my opinion.

I have been off of porn for 4 months but I still masturbate occasionally. My brain still feels waaaay better. Quitting porn should be priority number one

  4. 100% agree, masturbation (at a healthy level) is totally natural, so long as you don't depend on porn to get off

In this case, you put a lot of effort in it and get back just a small part of benefits.

You miss all the benefits coming from your new phyical state. You don't give your body the chance of recovering some energy and use it for other pourpouse, like for example finding a partner.

You basically miss at least 50% of your reboot.

I know a guy he is 2 years in nofap. He does masturbate about once a week but avoids porn. The result is he is having very minor benefits where if he had avoided pmo altogether I guess he would turned into a god after 2 years.

    Minor progress possibly

  7. I think with some blokes their addiction and compulsive behaviour is so out of control, that this first step of concentrating on eliminating porn usage and dependency whilst adopting a more strategic attitude towards masturbation (by setting weekly or monthly limits, for example) is not only pragmatic, but might even be necessary.

I think the advice that the only way to overcome this problem is by strict abstinence from masturbation (in addition to porn, which should hopefully go without saying) is counterproductive, especially as regards novice nofappers and geezers who have made some progress but have plateaued to some extent.

An analogy I would use is a fatso who gorges himself on garbage, stops that and starts gorging himself on good quality food.
He's still a fatso gorging himself, he's still hurting himself, but he's in a better place than previously.
The same for if someone excises porn from their life, but still faps.

Some people tell me, and I used to agree with this that: completely cold turkey (no pmo) is the way to go. Now I’m not so sure. Not everything is a one size fits all glove. What works for one person does not always work for someone else.

Good for you guys who are able to go without pmo completely. And maybe someday, I can even achieve nofap success like you guys. But for now, all I know is, that I’ve been messing around with nofap for 3 years now; and the longest streak I’ve ever put together is 14 days of no pmo. And then what happens after I relapse is I go on a 2-3 week binge before I make another attempt; just to repeat and repeat the same process over and over again.

I’m on 23 or so days without porn or social media, but I masterbate whenever I want. Now I’m starting to think that maybe masterbation is not so bad; just so long as masterbation is done purely with imagination and no porn or social media period. I’ve noticed that, even though I allow myself to masterbate whenever I want, just the fact that i don’t use porn or social media/youtube, the amount I masterbate has gone down drastically. So I’d say I’m making more progress on nofap, while masterbating, then just completely going cold turkey.

Completely no pmo is best, i get that. But is masterbation by itself without porn or social media really that bad? People masterbated 2000 years ago did they not; but what they did not have 2000 years ago was our modern-day, very sophisticated porn that we have today, and that is the real thing to avoid I’m starting to believe.

Some go for a year or two and still flatlining( supposing that they are doing everything right and not edging, etc) having sex for them is recommended. Brain needs a stimulation sometimes to not think we are asexual and also substituting sex with pmo helps brain to rewire with healthy lifestyle.

First of all, its interesting that in your age libido is still that high. I thought men in their 20's have that amount of libido. I'm assuming you are a hard case because you couldn't take care of your path and obviously you have crippled willpower to do so. I suggest not relying on willpower alone. Install p blockers, have barriers for your addiction. And definitely don't binge.

Think of it this way, why would you want to lose your juice when you can use its energy somewhere else? You need to realize its value to stop doing it and there are a lot of material on that on the forum. And it will most probably slow you down.

  11. if you don't masturbate to memories of P then it's ok

Masturbating without porn is significantly better than watching porn in my opinion.

  13. Also, it depends on the amount of masturbation. If it is just here and there, it won't set you back much in my opinion, but if it's a laissez faire, free-for-all, then you'll probably find yourself in a spot of bother before long.

what is the magic number you would say of masterbation that is not over doing it?

  15. I would say, as a general rule of thumb, no more than once a week.

But it really depends on the progress any given individual has made in their recovery.

For example, if they are an absolute beginner, it would be counterproductive to recommend any firm or determinate limit. It would be infinitely better to masturbate everyday, in my opinion, than to watch porn even once.

There might even be a certain implicit benefit to this type of recovery strategy, in that you learn to masturbate without the aid of the supernormal stimulus that is pornography.

Porn consumption generates a forced form of horniness which is totally artificial. By learning to masturbate without it, you learn the natural rhythm of your sex drive, and therefore a kind of self-regulation.
