Why is Pornography Legal ?

Masturbation isn't porn is the distinction that needs to be made here, and that website seems like its mostly just referring to the physical side of things not the emotional/mental side of things which can largely just be how you see your use of porn. Masturbation is just ejaculating with the use of your hand, if it was unhealthy sex would also be unhealthy since thats just using a hole. I guess we fundamentally see it differently though because I don't think prostitution should be illegal where its illegal. If an adult wants to pay to have sex with someone that's their business. Same way people can use alcohol or drugs and not be addicted, we can't just shut off the use of something because some people find it harmful. That'd be like banning knives because its possible to cut yourself or banning stoves because its possible for your sleeve to catch on fire. I think the most important thing is that people make educated decisions on using porn or not.

 

The government sees no incentive to criminalize porn because it could get them in legal trouble. Everything done in porn is done on film. Whereas prostitution, it’s a snatch and grab. You can arrest the bad guy and pretend to do a religious/moral crusade and everyone will cheer. Nobody will know about the corruption behind the scenes. When in reality, the government is just missing out on billions of dollars of economic stimulation that could go to positive things.

In my opinion, the government should stay out of the vice business because controlling people’s vices causes more pain and suffering than helping people.

Worrying about healthcare, labor protection, abortion, war, taxes, and infrastructure is far more important than worrying about people’s vices/bad choices.

Of course, you can regulate people’s vices. For example, you can’t have alcohol until your 21 etc.

 

Because it's very useful for keeping you docile, weak and ignorant of your enemies, let alone fighting them and taking back control of your society.

It's the same reason why watching sports is promoted, alcohol is rampant and drugs being peddled by governments (The CIA is the biggest importer and manufacturer of drugs in the US), that's not mentioning GMO foods, bad medical practices and psychotic drugs.

If you live long enough you will probably see pedophilia, bestiality and incest made legal as well.

Beautifully said, I think this is what it comes down to. People are gonna use their vices one way or another and no one is actually making them, this is just humans trying to cope with the world and if you take a vice away from them they usually become even more desperate and crafty at getting it(this is why the volstead act, or prohibition, actually made alcohol related issues worse, and why people in the middle east and china still use technological loopholes to access porn). There's nothing to be done about this aspect of people except to educate them and let them know the potential drawbacks of what they're doing, and hope they make that decision on their own. But quite frankly unless you're hurting others, I don't really care that much. And legalizing certain vices could actually make them safer(like how oregon is now doing psychedelic therapy with professionals soon, and how legalizing and regulating prostitution could reduce the sex trafficking involved in prostitution).

Many have already said the things. I suggest to move in Iceland. Maybe masturbation was healty, but not everyday. And we already are triggered by porn. In 1800 they didn't have porn sites, only art immages (Not made for exciting you). You could masturbate but after sometime you started to feel boring and stop it or try to get a girlfriend or go to the borthel and being a sexual addict. Today, us, people exposed to porn, will easly escalate to porn if we restart to masturbate without limits. There is triggers in our minds

 

So porn is technically illegal. I learned about the legal gymnastics in a case-law class, but it’s classified as art. It doesn’t take a genius to conclude it isn’t.

But in all honesty unless we transform into a theocracy it will remain legal.

Vice laws are extremely taxing and difficult to enforce, because they deal with. . . You guessed it vice. Marijuana was illegal in the US for years yet a substantial portion of the population still smoked. Porn is used on a larger scale, thus any prohibition would be a huge waste of money, as criminalization alone wont erase porn and it’ll tax Law enforcement to the same extent as the war on drugs

 

Actually they can decrease its prevalence to an extent, through laws and education, how many people would be addicted to porn if they told them it was harmful instead of their ridiculous advice of how good it is for you? But there is zero interest, porn is very very useful for the powers that be for now.

And BTW you are already living in a crypto-theocracy, but as the name suggests at the moment it is hidden.

Porn can be banned without a theocracy, you can take post-Weimar Germany as an example.

 

This never worked with marijuana. We can apply all the harm reduction we want people will still consume it. It may even be to the point where the law isn’t properly enforced.

Itd just ruin more lives than fix the addiction. It’s the same thing with cigarette laws. There are places banning cigs. But that doesn’t help the fact that they’re still ppl addicted to cigs. By having porn legal we can heavily regulate it as to keep watch of inmoral and degenerate content, because that is what we need to focus resources on, not playboy magazine.
