How long it really REALLY takes to be cured from PORN ?

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Mr.Tony, Aug 5, 2021.

  1. I'm almost 300 days NO PMO / NO SEX

Flashbacks - Names of both Male / Female Performers is still there...

You should start having sex again and engaging in other positive sexual romantic activities, including everything from flirting to dating, hugging to kissing, and touching to sex. Rebooting basically erodes the neurons in your brain wired to porn, but now there's nothing there. You need to rewire yourself with positive neural pathways. Not only does this calm the parts of your brain that are dying of stimulation, the more you rewire to sex, the harder it is for porn to take hold of you again!

YBOP explains this better than I do, I suggest you trust the experts

    see rebooting basics page

Do I have to have sex in order to rewire?

How do I know when I’m back to normal?

How do I cope with porn flashbacks?

Why is intermittent use (long abstinence with binges) an addiction risk?

    Two more thoughts.

While the neurons in your brain weaken on a timeline of months, they don't completely disappear for many years. Therefore, even if you are abstinent for a long time, relapsing can be disastrous in the long term. Abstinence with binge activity is not good overall for recovering, so to avoid you should start having sex.

Beginning to remember earlier types of porn you watched in your life is a sign that you're getting better! You should be very happy with your progress so far

  3. Sex is not an Option... Seriously, I live in a country where i can't have it though, plus other facts...

I guess it depends from person to person. Longest streak I’ve ever had was about 2 months, but after that streak I’ve felt a lot of my more deviant fetishes have passed or at least significantly weakened.

Have you stopped all fantasy and what have you done to replace the dopamine you are no longer getting from pmo?

How much time were you addicted to porn? If 5-10 years or so, then 300 days seems too low in relation to your addiction time — in theory it could explain, why you still have got flashbacks: your were abusing this stuff for years, and was abstained only one year.

Nevertheless, you should not bother about these flashbacks. If you would not pay them attention, they will probably disappear. Also @modernstore99 gave advice to you. As about engaging in sexual activities, I do not think that is good advice, but he is right about rewiring. You must have activity that you will be obsessed with. But this activity should be also healthy and productive. Studying, learning new languages, reading books, doing sports are good examples. What they have in common it is that your willpower (prefrontal cortex) actively involved while doing then. Activities like sex, video games or watching YouTube possibly will turn you into dopamine junkie. They are easier, but unproductive and could even harm to your willpower (due to the ease of obtaining gratification), so you should even avoid them.

I doubt that you will find out the exact answer. If we would supposedly take healing timeline as 50% of the addiction time, then it would probably take 5 years minimum, but as I said before, you should not worry about it. NoFap is the way not on fighting the old, but on building the new. Do not look behind, just go straightforward.

  14. You'll probably never forget specific scenes or names of porn performers that you used to like. That's just your memory. No length of reboot will change that. Getting back to normality is about moving on with your life and isn't really about specific days or times spent abstaining. 'Normality' starts when you're aware that you're no longer compelled to use pornography or masturbate anymore, and you start to develop other interests and hobbies that you do instead.

It can take one heartbeat or it can take 100 lifetimes it all depends if you are willing to sacrifice pleasure and go into the unknown.
