Christopher Nolan, I love inception and I like memento too.
I also like Michel Gondry with movies like eternal sunshine for the spotless mind and the science of sleep

I'm a big Nolan fan too. Thought he started to believe his own hype with Tenet though!
Science of Sleep was a favourite of mine but I haven't thought of it for years. Thanks for the reminder.

Really tough question, I’d have to say Alain Resnais’ Last Year at Marienbad is one of my favorite films. I can’t think of a director though that I think is completely consistent. I really liked Wes Anderson’s early films from 10-15 years ago, along with Truffaut. I didn’t really care for film until I discovered Truffaut.
Mao Zedong, read a biography on him and now I am fully invested in modern China. Really cunning and cruel individual. Close second would be the legislator Draco of Athens.

I preferred the Bollywood version of Memento. Ghajini, with Amir Khan! They played it straight, with no surprise at the end.

My absolute favorite director is Hayao Miyazaki. He single handedly built Studi Ghibli, the Disney of anime, and has so many classics to his name: Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke.

Really loved Nolan until he did tenet (and dunkerk was annoying)
So I think my favorite is Quentin Tarantino. I just love the way he makes movie and all of them feel radically different than other directors. The hateful eight is a masterpiece.

For French director my favorite is Claude Zidi.
