I've just been indecisive for so long, I wonder if masturbating to porn for so many years has been sapping my motivation to pursue a career, that and the stressors of learning contribute to my dissatisfaction with learning in general. Is this possible?

  2. Based upon my own experience, I would say "yes". I really like my job, but when I was in deep with jacking off and edging, my job seemed less and less important to me. And even in reboot, if I reset too many times or relapsed, suddenly I start looking upon my job as something that's "getting in my way", and it starts to bore me. Like any addiction, the deeper in you are, the more you will only care about your next "fix". Nothing else will matter.

And this kind of addiction is even worse than other addictions because not only does it keep you addicted to the dopamine thrill, but your brain also thinks that you're gaining access to a plethora of new women every day. You aren't going to have the motivation to improve yourself in any aspect if your brain thinks that you are perpetually winning at the mating game with almost no effort whatsoever.

The primary goal of all biological organisms is to reproduce and have their offspring survive, furthering their genetic line.

While the human part of your brain knows that when you jerk off that's just it, the parts of the brain that come from your mammalian and reptilian ancestors does not know this. Every time you orgasm to a knew video, a different porn star, or a new type of theme, your brain perceives this as you impregnating a brand new human woman, which will give birth to your child and further your genetic line. Your brain considers this a huge success, and will influence you to do this more often.

The more you PMO, the more your brain thinks it's hitting the evolutionary jackpot, spreading your seed in endless women. Your brain pushes you to do it even more, and eventually saps away at the other areas of your life because your brain deems them less important to PMOing (which it perceives as impregnating women).

In short, yes, watching porn absolutely erodes other parts of your life, especially your desire for a better career.

You hit the nail on the head, man!
That's exactly what happens to the brain, that's why you become unmotivated, numb, lazy and depressed because your brain thinks that you won the jackpot with almost no effort whatsoever, as you said.

Very true. You need to earn your things. If everything you ever wished for is given to you on a silver plate then there is no point, the reward won't be sweet, because you didn't work to obtain that thing.
And people will become lazy having everything they want because there is no point to work.

  9. Yes, personal experience... I worked at fast food (I was there for two years) I discovered Nofap and was in a two week streak with I had the bright idea and sudden motivation to find a higher paying job where I wasn't miserable. So I did. Then my second job, After a year of working there; I had just got a high increase in pay, but was no longer happy due to many changes, So I again went several weeks without porn where I found the motivation to find my current job where I am being paid the highest I've ever been and am one of the youngest in my department. There is a lot of science behind this, in conclusion yes.

Personal experience is it affected my motivation in the past. I feel like it drains all energy. When I’m on a good run work is good but when I’m relapsing I can’t be bothered with work. Seems pointless.

That's definitely possible. If I were you, I'd spend 1-2 hours a day dedicated entirely to finding work. Set the time aside, plan it and when it comes you're not aloud to do anything else.

  12. Totally. Porn makes your brain think it’s winning in life. Your getting access to hundreds of naked women with no effort and your releasing your sexual energy every day.

When you do NoFap, your brain wakes up to reality. Suddenly, you care more about your life. Especially your romantic life.

    Yes of course.
The act of extended masturbation to porn and the manufacturing of a load of semen very fast + the massive manufacturing and release of feel good chemicals in the brain is putting the body and brain under immense stress. Your body during FAP to porn is literally setting off tiny nuclear explosions in your brain and body as it manufactures Dopamine 10,000% more than normal. That shit takes a huge toll physically and psychologically and of course will demotivate you big time.

  14. First, I do not believe there can be a simple yes or no answer to this question. I would love to blame all of my lack of ambition on porn. But we know life is not like that - no doubt there are plenty of very ambitious and driven people who are just as addicted as anyone else. And there are plenty of layabout losers who would think pmo is the most stupid thing ever.
Factors such as family, environment, and culture contributed to who we become.
However, my porn habits did nothing to help me in school, career, or my relationships.
I cannot and I will not lay all the blame on porn, but it sure as heck did not help.

  15. Yeah - being spoiled as a child is no joke. People admire poor kids who make it big, but kids who have to wade their way out of cheap, meaningless trash covered in emotional strings don't get any credit, even though it's a subtler maze to navigate.

  16. No, it is not 'possible'. It is definitely true.

To succeed in life, you need all your resources, because that is what your competitors are throwing in too. Consuming porn, you develop a motivation to consume more porn - constantly. In consequence, your motivation to do anything else, including to learn new stuff and to strive for a career opportunity becomes second.

There is a simple truth in life: "you are what you repeatedly do" so, if you repeatedly wank to porn,...

But hey, who cares? You still have porn, so you can simply dive into it and forget about your lost opportunities...

Oh man this thread has become a goldmine! I've been on this forum for years! So much wisdom is written here

  19. Well, I feel the same, for some time now I've been getting discouraged with what I like, because of the pmo.
