I have a question for anyone that can relate or want to chime in on it: So lately I've started having a fight or flight response type symptom in which I randomly get startled by things and it's very annoying because when you're trying to fall asleep it wakes you up startled.....almost like being constantly stressed more so, so I wanted to know if anyone here has had that withdrawal symptom and if it has gone away with time

This used to happen to me all the time when I was frequently PMOing, and it was also a withdrawal symptom that I experienced for several months after quitting. Did you have a pretty severe addiction? The reason I ask is because not many people seem to report this symptom, so I'm thinking it might be something that only happens to people who have been heavily addicted for a number of years. It would most often happen to me when I was just about to fall asleep, but sometimes I would even experience it when I was awake during the day. To me, it feels like a sudden surge of adrenaline that occurs for no reason at all. You'll be fine one moment, and then you get hit with this sudden panicky feeling and find it difficult to take a breath.

This will heal in time if you keep abstaining from PMO. It can take up to six months to a year to fully heal in extreme cases, but I found that it diminished quite a bit after the first few months of NoFap.

Frequently abusing PMO for years takes a big toll on your central nervous system and endocrine system. Remember all those times that you would sit there edging for hours getting yourself all stimulated and wired out? Yeah, all that excessive stimulation wreaks havoc on your central nervous system and adrenal glands, and it can take some time for your body to rebalance all these things that you've made topsy-turvy. But don't worry, because this damage isn't permanent; it will heal if you just keep abstaining.

Yeah it's very annoying for me since it's more of a stress type feeling that you get where you're all jumpy and alert to any sudden noise but at the same time you get startled over nothing, and if you try to fall asleep you get these twitches that keep you from falling asleep and it's been messing with my sleep lately so I'm really wondering on when it will get better or go away

I more get the fight or flight response around other people. Particularly if I need to get into any form of conversation with someone.

Recovery is different for everybody because everybody has a unique addiction, so it's hard to say how long it will take to heal. It will fully heal at some point though; it did for me.

Yeah, they're really annoying when you're trying to sleep. It's always so difficult to get to sleep after one of those because you feel like you've just been on a roller coaster. It takes like half an hour for the adrenaline to calm down.

The only problems that I have now are depression and some issues with slight insomnia. Every other problem I had has been healed. It took pretty much two years to make this much healing progress, but my addiction was a little more extreme than most people.
