While I have viewed pornography from time to time I would not say I have ever been addicted to it. However I cannot not say the same fir masturbation. I have thought that my habit may be a problem for some time but only recently decided to try and do something about it. I joined this site to benefit from the experiences of others in the hopes I can change my own behaviors.

I'm 45, been married 15 years and have struggled with my addiction to mastubating off and on since I was 13. Last year I would say that I did it close to 3/4 times daily every day. I have not masturbated since December 31 but the urges have been overwhelming at times. I have avoided sexual interaction with my wife for the last two weeks fearing that that would lead me to breaking my "resolution".

I guess I need clarity on what constitutes relapses, resets, failures etc. Is playing with myself but catching it or stopping before ejaculation a relapse/reset? Is intercourse with my wife permitted? My goal eventually is to be able to control my urges and maybe masturbate once in a while as opposed to having my masturbation habits control me.

If your goal is to stop excessive masturbation then practice self-control and avoid it if you feel like that way your urges go away. We all have different things we're trying to accomplish, so it's best if you take a route that will prevent you from having those urges be a constant struggle in your day-to-day life. However, if you feel that outside of that there is not problematic behavior, you should resume your life as usual, avoiding the vices that will make you feel guilty, as well as any potentially triggering situations.

I hope this helps, and good luck!
