Anybody Else Here Have Autism?

I do, Asperger's in fact.

Autism is very grey though, going from one range of extreme to the other being mild, frankly I wouldn't be surprised if the current understanding of it (as well as the people who supposedly have it) went in a different direction altogether.

 

Yeah, I have aspergers. I think it becomes really obvious when I get stressed

 

How would you know if you had asperger's if you had it?

 

The symptoms can vary widely, the best way to my knowledge is to get your genes tested and if they find specific markers then its a pretty good indication.

Other ways to tell if you have Autism (or Asperger's) is to see how you react with others, if you have difficulty picking up on certain social cues or you have very specific habits and can't adjust to new things then that may also say something about it, like I said the symptoms can vary widely, for instance standing on your tippy toes is apparently another sign of it, and often its difficult to say whether or not your issues are a symptom of Asperger's or porn addiction and so on, frankly unless you have extreme difficulties with communicating with others I would not worry about it too much, Asperger's is a very mild form of Autism and so even without any outside assistance you can still prosper and lead a very successful life.

 

I do have some difficulty with communicating with people, this is partially why I haven't had a partner and its partially why I find fantasy so more alluring than reality, there's also the fact that if I get interested in something (and I'm obviously interested in porn because I'm here after all) I tend to become very obsessed with it and so I would figure my cravings (and addiction) is stronger than someone who has went through something similar except without being an Aspie.

My special interests are gaming, movies, politics, technology, and so on.

 

No idea. I wouldn't say I have any "special" interests either.

 

I'm really weird, does that count as autism?

 

I kind-of Aspergerish. I'm terrible at making eye contact (especially with women); I have no idea how to be playful without coming across like a complete idiot; and women don't seem to like being in my company very much — which is apparently due to the 'cold', 'disinterested' vibe I give off. I don't like being touched very much either. People don't seem to like hugging me or getting close to me. The idea of being emotionally close to people feels icky.

I dunno. People's mannerisms just annoy the fucking shit out of me too. At times, I honestly do feel like an alien visiting planet Earth.

 

Despite all the attention Autism has gotten in recent years there's still much more to be understood about it, I believe I heard someone compare it to how we used to view cancer decades ago, like I said unless its a reoccurring and deep problem in ones life don't put too much into it, I know of multiple people that think they have ADHD or bipolar or whatever when in reality they likely don't, doctors will often diagnose you with something like chronic ED or ADHD just so they can give you pills for it, which in reality it may be something much easier to handle.
I would like to see some sort of research on the relation between porn addiction (other addictions are acceptable comparisons) and Autism or ADHD and so on, like I wonder if someone who already has difficulty interacting with people (such as those with Autism) are more likely to seek out dopamine and thus become addicted more often.

 

I have Asperger's. I don't want to let it define who I am, but I can't deny that it makes me different in small nuances.

For instance, it's the reason I can't hold down a job, or how I get bored too easily, or how I can't get a girlfriend or keep eye contact. I scored 34 on the test, and feel that over the years my symptoms have reduced. I have good and bad days. Today to be honest with you, because I have a headache and think that I'm flatlining, is a pretty bad day. I keep thinking about a girl who I dated a couple of times who blew my mind, but blew me off. It felt as though I'd been left out to dry, been left standing there on my own as she walked on slowly by. And I hate this feeling so, so much guys.

 

OK, what is aspergers???
I see this word lots of times, I never understand what it means. Checked wikipedia too, how is autism different than aspergers?
Autism is kind of an umbrella term, however my question still stands.

Me in a nutshell. I can get playful at times but not social. It's hard to make friends anymore unless they're pretty much depressed people. I scored 28 on the test.

 

Hi. I'm diagnosed Aspergers, I just say autistic usually as don't have a problem with the DSM 5 recategorisation.

Anybody on this thread still around? Feel like communicating?

 

I do mate! I found out a couple months ago at an assessment from a therapist. I have to wait a like three or four months for a test to see where exactly on the spectrum I am, glad to see others as well.

He told me it's not aspergers and most likely lower functioning because of the dependency I have with my SO. I'm also an introvert too which makes things even more awkward and stressful for me. lol

 

I do. It's what I get disability for (lucky me)... Strangely, I never had a full assesment done. But I don't doubt I'm on the spectrum—it explains everything.

 

Really? Bloody hell how did you manage to get on that without an assessment? They won't do anything for me until a get a full one done, even though the therapist and other staff know for sure I have Autism.
