Hyper-awareness of my member while laying in bed?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Feb 17, 2022.

  1. Hello, I am on the journey of officially committing to PMO abstinence and I have encountered a particular problem that I haven't read about before. When I lay in bed either before going to sleep, or when I wake up, I feel a kind of hyper-awareness of my penis as if it's communicating with me telepathically telling me I should jack off, telling me that it's there and ready whenever. This I feel like I can differentiate from general urges since urges for me only occur if I'm thinking about something that would trigger me for ten or so seconds, in which instance I would have to distract myself and think of something else.

This hasn't happened to me before committing to NoFap because my brain knew that I wasn't placing restrictions on myself, so I think it's also part of me sabotaging myself.

100% of the time I used to masturbate took place in my bed, so I can acknowledge that I'm probably subconsciously associating laying in bed with masturbation. This presents a problem considering we all have to sleep in bed sooner or later. I practice 4-7-8 breathing to assist me in going to sleep, but even when I am doing it I still occasionally think of stimulating myself. Occasionally it is difficult for me to get up out of bed in the morning, and in that instances my hyperawareness of my member can get pretty extreme. If anyone else has had this issue I would be grateful if you could offer any bit of advice.

I find that moment a little bit tricky generally speaking. I would say that it's important to modify the sleeping patterns, as well as using the bed only for sleeping, no reading or something. I think that the abstinence from any form of caffeine will help you to regulate better. Also, we need to feel tired when going to sleep. If we go to sleep more or less awake, we are more likely to have a relapse. In this matter intense and sustained physical exercise helps a lot. Examples of this could be an intense martial art and weightlifting. What you are doing about the breath is cool as well. I hope it helps bro.

Maybe a good idea could be not to have naps, sometimes I take a brief and repairing one, and it feels good afterwards (when the nap is long it has the opposite effect, at least for me). But I'm starting to think that the ideal combination for me is: no caffeine + no naps. In this way my body is pushed to a good regulation, theoretically. I'm still fine tuning this habits, so it's a work in progress.
