Challenging Myself

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Wolfgang44, Sep 18, 2015.

  1. Day 0

I apologize to anyone who may have been watching my previous thread, I'm starting to develop a habit of deleting old threads after I relapse. I don't want this to happen anymore, so this will be my last "new" thread. Anyways, I'm going to try a different approach to beat my previous record of 7 days without relapsing. I'm going to challenge myself to reach 10 days, and if I do, I will allow myself to buy a new phone. I know some of you may be thinking "Oh, well using an extrinsic motivator isn't the right mentality for a reboot". Well, I think this will be enough to get the ball rolling for me and then once I reach 10 days I won't stop. My extrinsic motivation will hopefully become intrinsic motivation. I got this. If anybody wants to join me for the ride feel free to post your daily updates with me on this forum. It really helps me not feel alone during this process.

Regarding the above statement, it's called positive reinforcement, a proven, effective method in behavior modification - so there's nothing wrong with it. Also, what we practice as external eventually becomes internalized - whether vice or virtue - isn't that how the addiction got a grip on us to begin with? Might that be how the virtue contrary to the addiction will ultimately set in.

    Keep up the good fight.

  3. Thank you friends, you are giving me more conviction to fight this nasty addiction. Small speed bump - I relapsed before Day 0 even completed. Won't go into the details because I will not allow it to phase me! I CAN FIGHT THIS.

  5. Day 1

Feeling good today, but having slight urges to watch P. Will battle and control these urges, need to get one step closer to getting a new phone!

  6. Quarter of the way there before I beat my previous record of 7 days. I GOT THIS!

  7. Day 2

Love seeing that my counter is almost at 40%. I can't believe I never really used the counter as motivation before. Just seeing how close I am to my goal makes it feel very doable, and dare I say "easy"? But I'm using that word lightly, I know the next few days are going to be tough, and I'm already feeling great stress because of two tests I have next week. But I will not channel this stress the wrong way, focus and discipline will get me through!

I'm on day 29 of my reboot, just wanted to say that you're doing a great job, keep it up man ! just keep yourself busy, boredom always leads to a reset is what I've experienced

  9. Thanks dude! Based on my hectic school schedule I don't think keeping myself busy will be an issue, but I think what I do in my rest/free time is where I'm at risk to reset. I'll have to stay disciplined and do enjoyable activities that won't trigger me to relapse. Great work with the 28 days PMO free man! Hopefully I can get to that number this time.
