This is exactly it. I'm coming up on a year clean, and it's the only thing that has worked for me. Someone recently asked what the "secret" is to recovery. I don't think there is a secret, but here's what i said:

It's actually not a simple conversation, and there is no silver bullet, but to break it down into the most important pieces:

1) Control your thoughts
2) Deal with past hurts- do not run away from them!
3) Seek an accountability approach that works for you. (Some need software blockers, accountability partners,etc. For me, I was broken enough when I started recovery that just being here was enough)
4) Recovery must be the #1 priority in your life. Do not procrastinate. Recovery is extremely hard, and requires focused time and attention. Other things can come later when you have some stability in life.
5) Stay connected to others. Isolation and idle time breed temptation.

 

Very good! I remember I was suffering from this addiction also 15-20 years and for me overcome it and even for 1 week was not possible. After I start to reveal my heart here in this forum I immediately made 120 days. My further understanding that we have to keep it alive - our determination and our promises. This forum is very helping for it. It gives a lot of strength and conviction to remain free from this pornography and masturbation.

It is definitely very useful to come back to this forum frequently and even before the urges arrive. I see it as a kind of positive programming of yourself, kind of reinforcing your goals and conviction. It works the same way as frequent use of porn and masturbation, reinforcing your addiction.

 

usually sometimes it’s difficult to tell about it to your friends or relatives. If you keep it within yourself it’s impossible to overcome. When you brave and suffer enough you can tell it loudly to someone and it’s actually begging of your path of purification.
Here is more easy and a lot of peoples will understand you because they trying purified themselves from this nasty habits.
It’s very good time to time remind yourself of your promises and horrible consequences of this bad habit.
