I'm neither supporting nor denying anything. But how are PMO withdrawals even comparable to withdrawal from actual drugs as this forum claims, and not more comparable to "withdrawals" from quitting any pleasurable activity?

Like quitting video games, junk food, watching TV or whatever makes you happy. I mean sure you'll miss it for awhile and it's gonna be hard to adjust, you'll feel bored, anxious due to forcing yourself not to do it, hell even sad too.

But depression? Suicidal thoughts? No energy to get out of bed? Brain fog? All because you stopped watching porn?

Like cmon, those are withdrawal symptoms of drugs, chemicals that you actually put in yout body that directly change your neurochemistry and rewire your brain. Porn, releases dopamine, sure. Easy-access dopamine. So does any hobby.

Now, unlike drugs that actually "force" your body to tank into the reserve and release huge amounts of dopamine, soon after making you dependent on the drug to release any at all, porn and any hobbies naturally release it. Your dopamine system is made for that, to be released when experiencing pleasure in life, whatever it is.

    Seriously thought...
Do you think your brain cares how that dopamine is released? Do you think it makes a difference between porn and dunno, fishing (assuming fishing makes you really happy and u release a lot of dopamine when fishing). Thats the problem with drugs, they are neuro toxic and completely fry out your dopamine neurotransmitters, to the point where you feel like absolute shit after qutting or if you're addicted hard enough, even during the addiction, because your receptors are absolutely fried out. With porn however.. God damn, you can just find another way to release that dopamine, since your brain is fine...

Now, that does not make porn good, I am not making that claim, it is a horrible demon that absolutely needs to be avoided at all costs.

My point is, stop trying to convince yourself that its natural to feel hardcore withdrawals after quitting porn, because its not. Find another hobby to replace it, another one that will give you your natural dopamine high. That's the entire issues here, we've become dependent on porn for a quick and easy way to release dopamine and feel better, that we have forgot there are other ways and activities to do it. Thats one thing Nofap is right about. Keep yourself occupied with other things, so you dont sit all day thinking how depressed you are because you don't watch porn and theres nothing you can do about it, thats why relapse happens, it is a horrible mindset to have.

And if you actually experience withdrawals comparable to those of drugs, are you even sure quitting porn caused you to feel all these things, or you've been fucked up all along and turned to porn as a way of quick escape? And after you've quit, your escape has been taken away so now you're dealing with the shit you've been running from and there aren't no more magic videos to make you feel better? Maybe you've been depressed all along and need a therapist, instead of counting days and wondering when you'll start feeling better? Maybe porn was the symptom for you, not the disease.

I've seen so many posts from people being PMO free for more than a year and still feel like shit and wonder when it will end. Hasn't it ever crossed your mind that quitting porn is not what caused your depression, but rather your depression caused you to binge watch porn all day?

And if you don't reach out for help for your case of clinical depression, because this is exactly what it is, not touching your meat and not watching videos on the hub, is not going to magically fix that, not in one, not in ten years. So all of those in this forum telling guys who say they're PMO free for two years and still depressed as shit, don't you think you're not doing them any favors by telling them to keep going and giving them false hopes that it will get better with time, and that they're still healing and all that bullshit, have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, guys are dealing with clinical depression, their life is a mess and maybe there's some other damn cause for feeling this way than not watching some stupid videos?

But for those scared to start on NoFap because they're scared of depression, withdrawals and all that shit. Seriously. Dont worry. That wont happen if you're mentally healthy. If anything, quitting will only give you benefits. More free time do to other shit, hopefully you replace the porn high with a high from something more productive and you're good.

But if your life is an utter mess, don't think stopping porn will magically fix all of it and turn the depression into bliss. There's way more you gotta do to fix your life brothers. If the key to success, happiness and becoming a true alpha was as simple as not PMOing, we'd all be Cary Grant's. But it ain't. It's simply a step in the right direction.

Depression and suicidal thoughts though? Cuz of nofap? Nah.

Boredom, sure. Insomnia due to high sexual desires and not releasing it, sure. Being pissed and angry at nothing, because you can't release the tension? - Sure.

But depression, suicidal thoughts, no motivation for anything... Hell.. either porn is your entire life and you haven't been doing shit during your days and you need to get on your ass and absolutely get a grip and fix your life. Or you need to do yourself a favor and book a psychologist. Because it ain't nofap that makes you feel that way. You've been fucked up all along homie.

That's it from me. Take it, or hate it, whatever you wish.

Intensity of withdrawals is extremely various on the degree of habitual use, that's why eliminating causes health damage ranging mild to severe from person to person

  4. That was quite a longwinded way to express a bunch of random opinions based on a whole lot of nothing. The only thing I'm wondering about is your motivation to sit there for however long it took you to type this up in order to post. Despite you claiming otherwise, are you really here to defend porn? Downplay its detrimental effects perhaps? Why do you care so much about how porn is perceived by others? What do you get out of that?

Anyway, just because I think you'll appreciate reading yet another such comment:
I'm convinced that 90% of my health issues are related to PMO and edging.

You can be convinced of whatevwr you'd like, that doesn't make it scientifically plausible. If anything, this community seriously resembles a cult in the way that it endoctrinates people with unscientific claims, promises a life of bliss and "superpowers" if you follow their "path to righteousneas". I understand how people can be easily fooled and manipulated into believing all sorts of shit, when they do not have the educational foundation to think otherwise.

But there isnt a single way how watching porn (or anything in that matter) will create actual health issues. At least it will never be a direct causation. Now if your porn habits made you so demotivated and made you lead a very unhealthy lifestyle that resulted in unhealthy habits, then yes, that will create health problems.

But the main point here I am trying to make is that porn cannot directly cause those issues, it is the bad choices that come alongside porn. So if you keep doing the bad habits, even after quitting PMO, you will not get any better. Which is why, many people feel like shit after years of NoFap, because they've been lied to that quitting PMO will fix their life, and nobody told them to inprove on other problematic areas as well.

Because if porn made me lonely, which in turn inspired me to start drinking, which in turn made demotivated to work out, which in turn made me develop health issues, quitting porn wouldn't erase all that chain of negative events if I continue to do the other stuff after quitting porn.

That is the point of my post. Porn is absolutely bad for you, but its just one of the many bad choices people make. And simply getting rid of one bad choice doesnt guarantee that your life will be fixed, thats a big fat lie this whole forum promises. You need to improve as a whole in a wide range of fields, If you actually want to get better mentally and as a person in general. Its not as simple as quitting porn.

A fat, unemployed, uneducated porn addict fuck that lives in his moms basement and has no future will still be a fat, unemployed, uneducated fuck that lives in his moms basement and has no future, even after qutting porn, not a "superhero" for sure.

I won't get through all of it because I'm too tired for that but I will point out that porn release much much more dopamine than video game or fishing. And that's a key difference. It does rewire your brain to look for that specific pleasure and you get deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole to get that rush, with consequences on your whole life (like people doing findom, people looking for cp).

While I agree that people tend to blame porn for everything wrong in their life and that we sometime see a cult mentality, the harm is clearly here. Nothing good can come out of porn and for that reason it should not be watched.

  9. Yes I think your brain cares about the difference. I think the pleasure derived from our biological drive to procreate cannot be compared to the pleasure we get from a hobby, which is part of what makes it so difficult to quit.

I agree with your main point I think, that in terms of the more obvious physical symptoms of withdrawal from drugs like shakes and throwing up, you're prob not going to experience that while withdrawing from porn. And yeah I'm inclined to agree that if you're feeling depressed or suicidal from quitting, there are probably some underlying issues at work. But I absolutely do believe there is a kind of withdrawal at work in the first 30 days of nofap that make it really difficult to quit.

But heavy porn use does alter the brain. Pornography’s Effect on the Brain: A Review of Modifications in the Prefrontal Cortex (byu.edu)

For ease of access, here is the key part of the abstract:

"Addiction research has found that long-term substance addiction contributes to changes in brain volume (Hong et al., 2013; Zhou et al., 2011). Recent studies have shown that behavioral addictions also have similar volume loss as substance abuse (Hong et al., 2013). Research has shown that the particular area most affected is the prefrontal cortex (Hong et al., 2013). The prefrontal cortex, which oversees regulating selfcontrol, decreases in size when exhibiting addictive behaviors (Hong et al., 2013). The cause of behavioral addictions like pornography addiction comes from prefrontal cortex areas such as the DLPFC, vlPFC, and vmPFC (Zhou et al., 2011). This effect on the prefrontal cortex has been shown to be particularly marked in participants with pornography addiction (Kühn & Gallinat, 2014). Pornography use has been shown to decrease the gray matter of the prefrontal cortex compared to baseline, thereby decreasing decision making. This affect to the cortices dedicated to decision making and self-control may contribute to why pornography use can be addictive."

Porn is not necessarily addictive in the same way, let's say, cocaine is addictive. It's addictive because it is unnatural to us, in the same way that a cheeseburger, combining sugar, fat, and salt, is unnatural and addictive to us - it provides a hyper-charged version of a normal chemical response that our primitive brains cannot handle properly. With that in mind, it is reasonable to assume some will experience heavy withdrawal.

In my first post I forgot to mention the Chaser Effect.

Humans evolved to seek out sex for the purpose of procreation. Having sex increases the desire to have more sex because the brain is literally thinking "Get while the getting's good." When you PMO, you are hijacking that healthy response and replacing it with a fake one. On some level, your brain thinks you are procreating with all the women you watch in porn, and that is partially why it is so hard to stop, you are fighting your lizard brain's natural impulse to spread your genetic material to these digital women.

    I agree.

  14. You should re-read that first sentence and apply it to the bunch of absolute garbage that is your OP.

The only way I can even try to understand where you're coming from is if what this is all about is you attacking the NoFap sub on Reddit. You know... the one full of meme enthusiasts whose spelling, grammar and punctuation are about as good as yours. The endless circle jerk that is r/nofap indeed might as well be a cult; that's where "superpowers" are discussed. No one mentions that shit on this website.

The rest of your response is simply too imbecilic to address. I wouldn't know where to start so I'll just take the highroad on this one.

I'm sure your convincing arguments have changed a lot of minds.

Oh in terms of negative sexual side effects I totally agree, porn will absolutely kill your natural sex drive and replace it with porn drive, take away the enjoyment from sex and result in erectile dysfunction and overall sexual inadequacy. And it is not that hard to see the link there.

My point was rather that porn and withdrawing from porn, in no way can cause the same side effects or withdrawal symptoms such as recreational drugs, such as SAD, clinical depression, suicidal thoughts and all that. The people blaming those effects on porn withdrawal simply seeked temporary relief by watching porn, but those issues were there all the time.

You can be mad all you want buddy, you are only reacting this strong because you've been hoping stopping PMO will fix your entire life, but you're secretly realizing how idiotic that is, but you refuse to accept it. Simply not watching porn will not magically make every woman who once found you repulsive immediately attracted to you, if you continue to be a sole loser (even without the porn) and you fucking know it. You need to fix your life and personality first, including your childish tantrums and emotional instability, because your problems quite certainly involve more than watching porn.

    @VagabondaHugh
You have to accept that PMO is a problem.
Common! we are just 300k people only doing nofap and our lives are getting better somehow.
There are people who are married had a life had a job but they are not fool when they come here.
You think that we are being manipulated by this concept of NoFap,but no,we don't need even super powers
    We just want a control.
You are right that nofap can't fix our problem that is what " Jk emezi porn reboot "said years ago.
I still have to hardwork ,even I can't type properly due to my genetic disease of hands but I know now that I had to face it rather than a porn button solution.
Common man ,it is avaliable on a click and it is first preference to depression and boredom.
You are right nofap can't replace my depression but it is increasing it too

"After fucking a screen ,you will fuck more."
And even if you are an athiest(actually quite complicated than that) like me then you will do it without a fear of hell but once you do it again and again you turn your life into hell.
    See why I am here.
I almost failed my last year exam and I ejaculated and laughed after failing though year passed I m not that sick psycopath anymore but my mind knew that porn and masturbation were greatest pleasures.
    I got sad porn,I got mad,porn,I got etc,porn.

    (Sounding like fapper WARNING BELOW)
Dr.Fap:- I am your doctor I will prefer studying instead of porn because it is a high dopamine boost.
I also recommend weekly porn and edging so that you won't lost essential nutrients and vitamins.
Compulsive Vagabond:-Ok doctor but I just want to be healthy while I fap
Dr Fap:-Don't ejaculate just reverse you are not a cow,you are a man.
    Obcessive vagabond:-Oh wow,my man powers,I m gonna fuck myself now,wohoooooo.
    Dr Fap:-Cooommminggggggg!
    Common
When we do 90 days ,we do a challenge,if we get successful, we get sure that things don't get out of hand.
It is a challenge and a way of improving life.
If it was in our control then why can't we even cross 5 days, means it is something!
Tell me your greatest streak ,mine is currently on 7th day with nofap.

You also didn't seem happy with @Daniel Plainview because he just gave reference to the original papers.
It is all fun and games till your grey matter becomes ordinary matter.

Withdrawing from an addiction can cause withdrawals, that's scientifically proven.

Thousands upon thousands of guys on nofap have reported withdrawals when trying to quit porn, do you think they're all just making it up? You say that these symptoms were already there before quitting yet in the majority of cases these symptoms then go away by themselves after a period of time clean from PMO. Some withdrawals are even physical, so unless you think porn was somehow preventing these from surfacing before quitting I'm not sure how they would fit into your theory either.

Tbh I never understand the motive for posters like you, if you don't believe in something then why go to the time and bother to make an account on here and tell people they're wrong, what's the point? You're going off on a bit of a tangent with your other posts, equating the claims of superpowers and the like with what you were originally arguing against. I also have to laugh at you starting off with "I'm neither supporting nor denying anything" before spending the next 30 minutes vehemently denying everything.

  19. Yes there may be other things going on like severe mental health issues, ACE (adverse childhood experiences), trauma etc. but then again that's the case with substance use too. Focusing on 'it's not just porn', which is not the same as PMO, and PMO is also not the same as PMO in the context of a persons life with the developmental influence etc. is reductionistic and ironic considering the thrust of the argument seems to be arguing against that.

But it is problematic I think, just given how many threads are based on counting days the norm here seem to make it impossible to communicate anything more specific, even with AA and other substance recovery programs where they also track time they do get into the personal story and psychological significance, they don't have ideas like on day x this and that os supposed to happen. It effectively feels like an environment where not much meaningful ideas with any degree of depth can be shared. If enough people with more than that to contribute feels like it's a waste of time the overall quality of posts will more likely remain low.
