  1. There is a video about addiction Dr. Anna Lembke: Understanding & Treating Addiction | Huberman Lab Podcast #33 - YouTube in which during the 10 minute to 15 minute mark the doctor suggests that addictive behaviour is linked with impulsivity.

I found it conflicting with the view I have about myself, for I do not consider myself an impulsive person. I addmit I am impulsive when I decide to watch porn, but besides that I would actually do better in life if I were more impulsive. And yet perhaps I just have the wrong view about myself. Anyways, thought to share it and make the poll.

I feel like I became an impulsive person over time, although I'm unsure if thats actually the case. But I feel like I once was less impulsive, especially before my addiction developed in early youth. In my childhood I don't think I can remember lots of impulsive behavior, although it's possible that my memory is incorrect.

I personally think, that I can hide my impulsivity relatively well from others. I don't think the people around me would characterize me as being an impulsive person.

I don't know if that makes any sense from a developmental standpoint, but maybe impulsivity - like so many other things - is at least in part a learned behavior. If so, I'd like to think there is also a way to unlearn it.
But since my father certainly is impulsive, I can imagine how impulsivity might also at least in part be inherented behavior.

I find it interesting to think about the question if impulsivity is something to be fixed or only managed. I guess that remains to be seen.

    I'm not that impulsive anymore.

I use to be impulsive when it came to spending money but then I got into bad debt and my sister had to help me pay it off. Now I'm extra careful when I spend money, I frequently check my banking app to see if I can afford the stuff I want to buy.

I also was very impulsive on social media, was quick to get into arguments with people and got mad at people who had different opinions from me. One day I realised getting into all these fights with people online wasn't good for my mental health. I discovered stoicism and the writings of Marcus Aurelius and that helped me be better in this area. I try to put into practice the Marcus Aurelius quote in my signature. I always have the option of not having an opinion and even if I do I don't need to let everyone know it. People are free to disagree with me and the world doesn't revolve around me and my views. I occasionally may give one or two responses to someone who disagrees with me but no more than that, but usually, I don't say anything back. I do this also on this forum. So if you disagree with me it's likely I won't respond.

It's not only online that I have had this problem. When I was younger I could get really angry as soon as people disagreed with me irl. I would more often and not respond with aggression. But now I cope better with disagreements nowadays. Regular mindfulness and workouts have helped a lot. Also learning about how to respond to critical feedback when studying at university has helped me hear critical feedback with an open mind.

As someone with ADHD I would say yes I am an impulsive person but it's something I am aware of and focus on.

As someone stated before stoicism plays a big part in my Psyche. Stoicism and reasonably good morals and ethics help to keep me on the straight and narrow .

Addiction is addiction. It creates it's own impulsivity .

Everyone is impulsive to a degree hell everything is by impulse, the difference is thinking about the short and long-term consequences. Impulses can become compulsions if left unchecked

if you have lower levels of dopamine either by default or because of addiction you are more likely to be a impulsive. And addiction will make you more impulsive because of the spikes and dips in dopamine

The problem with cold turkey is people with impulsivity will become bored and find stimulation again. May aswell make it something healthy.

I used to run 100miles a week and lift 5 days a week for about year and half . Felt 100 times better more energy and discipline. Need to get back into it
