Can you replace one addiction with another?

This is a question that I ask myself for a while, like
replacing P addiction with smoking. Is that possible?

Someday, I was really stressed and smoked, and I didn't wanted to PMO for 3 days or so.

Yeah, I think PMO is more dangerous because I have to take a shower everytime I do it and I get sick because of it, so it will worth it.

  4. Find something positive as your new addiction. New interesting hobbies and such.

  5. I'd gladly start smoking again if it replaced pmo addiction, but it doesn't work that way. My guess is a vice is only a hindrance that could potentially become a chink in your armor in the fight against pm.

This is definitely the better play.

You can replace it with a good hobby/habit. I recommend going to the gym a few times a week for a start.

If the question is simply intending to ask if it is possible; then yes absolutely, and is incredibly common.

Is it advisable as a strategy? Not usually unless, as @Raven King pointed out, it is replaced by activities which are healthy such as the gym.

I know for myself I tend to get a huge desire to eat sweets for that dopamine kick without the PMO. Not great for my health though.

no, i meant that even if it was possible to replace it with cigarettes, it will not be worth it. you will get a bad habit that you use to escape reality. try to get clean of everything and dont listen to your addicted brain.

Or you could end up with 2 addictions, for example what if you became addicted to weed and pmo ? The weed could help take the edge off your anxiety, but in turn lower your inhibitions toward pmo use ? Is it really worth the gamble*? ( *another potential addiction for to sample ? )

Idle hands are the devil's workshop. Stay busy and do things so that there's no time to spend time on addictions. When you feel the urge to PMO, go to public spaces. Nobody would PMO in public, would they? And then of course remind yourself why you're doing this.

Thank you all for the answers. I know that replacing PMO with good habits would be better but bad things release more dopamine than positive habits. Whatewer, If the school ends I'll probably go to the gym. But now I don't have the time so I'll try to replace it with watching matches, drawing and reading books. Hope it will work

By the way, how many days should I avoid M for beginning? (My willpower isn't really strong)

  13. I can...sort of..understand the rational but I think finding something constructive is better. For me deep breathing is very good and stops things just in time to stop and think, but you may be considering a more substantial replacement.

As a niccotine addict and PMO addict, just to directly answer your question I would say no.

Im currently addicted to both and one does not replace the other, they are seperate addictions.

Sexual urges and drug addiction (nicotine in this instance) are not linked together, like they aren’t the same category I guess.

If you asked could I replace a smoking addiction with a vaping addiction, I would say yes because its a direct replacement. Also I can verify this particular example cause thats what I did. I never quit smoking I just got a new addiction.

But now theres me thats a vape addict and a PMO addict, these urges are completely seperate and I can’t quit either easily.

Im not sure the best words to convey my message but to summarize it. I would say the most likely outcome is you just pick up a new addiction awful addiction, and make no progress with PMO addiction and may even make it worse by trying to cope with it with more unhealthy habbits
