What are your nofap techniques?

    Wasn't sure where to put this thread, since there doesn't seem to be a forum for just masturbation and not porn. What do you all do to keep away from temptation? How do you keep yourself from turning to P or M? What has worked for you and what hasn't?

    I find the most important things that worked for me are:
    • Thinking reinforcing thoughts that are helpful to stay clean. The hard truth basically.
    • searching for things that distract your mind from the urge, like watching Television or playing a video game. I think it's alright to do those things in the first months. Remember, we are trading upwards.
    • journalling about the urge, writing it down and observing it systematically.
    • Urge surfing
    • Imagining moments before they happen. So being aware of which moments are the hardest for me. I usually know the times I have an urge. Mostly when I am alone in my room during the day or at night. Other than that I don't have urges when I am hanging out with friends. I don't take my phone that much with me.
    • turning my phone off at around 10-10:30pm

    What didn't work:
    • staying up late at night browsing social media
    • trying to push the urge away.
    • immediately giving in to the urge and giving up.
    • trying to motivate myself at the beginning of a streak, just to relapse two weeks later. It takes more than just temporary motivation. You really need to find the why's to your use of this "substance"

    Yeah you should check out that thread. It helps a lot. Urge surfing..uh I'm not sure how to explain it. But basically Its where you sit with your urge, observe it and instead of pushing it away you sort of "surf it" where you don't get overwhelmed from the urge. It's sort of done in a meditative way. There is a mp3 linked to that mentioned thread. But that specific mp3 can be somewhat triggering because of the female that spoke it, really depends from person to person.
