Thank you, this means a lot to me, it's been so long since I've reached 3 days even that it's feeling totally alien, every hour pretty much I feel the urge to masturbate since it's been such a habit and the knowledge that I'm not going to be allowed (by myself obv) to masturbate in any capacity to relieve the tension is extremely difficult to cope with, but it's like a switch flipped and I just refuse to do it. There is no option, I'm just going to beat this.

Can't wait til I'm at 7 days, congratulations, I can't wait til I'm a few weeks out from now

    Update:

Personally for me relapses don't just come out of nowhere. It usually starts with some time of Unproductivity and lack of dicipline. For example not doing the dishes (cleaning room) , not tidying the bed, watching entertainment while you know you should be doing something more productive such as studying, pulling all nighters for unproductive reasons..... And so on. After a few days of these unproductive activities, I will usually go back down the rabbit-hole of porn again.

Most would consider the examples above easy to do (Doing your dishes and tidying the bed, or even going to sleep in time isn't hard right?), but still many of us will go days without doing these simple chores. And If we can't do these simple things, how are we supposed to stay disciplined when the urges to watch porn comes into our mind? After all it's much harder to say no to something which we have been abusing like addicts for years.

With that said, My focus in this challenge will be in making sure i'm doing the small things right and then hopefully I will be able to build the strength to do the big things right. These are five (simple) things i'm going to change:

    1. Sleeping and waking up on a specific time.

    2. Always making sure the house is clean.

    3. Stop consuming useless entertainment (No movies, shows, youtube etc. unless i'm with other people).

    4. Going to the gym regularly. I know this is classic, but gym as the best way to build discipline. There is nothing more disciplined than having a plan that you stick to everyday. The time when I have gone to the gym regularly and stayed disciplined is also the time i have gone without porn the longest. And I always felt clear minded after gym sessions. Urges also disappear if you go to the gym to clear your mind.

    5. Starting a diet. Similar to going to the gym, starting a diet is one of the best way to build discipline. Think about it, what is not disciplined about staying on a specific diet everyday no matter what? The diet i will be doing (and always do) is KETO diet which means I won't be eating food in high carbs, which again means no sweets, chips and other high carb foods. That's a good way to build discipline.

That was some of the things I will be changing this year. Also I'm looking up the Detox Challenge and its benefits.

I agree 100% with your statement. Indeed, relapses don't come out of nowhere. Pulling all nighters or just going to bed a bit later than regularly stops your own dopamine production, which will lead to cravings the day after. A bad sleep also results in a weakened control of emotions, which will result in a vulnerable state for a former addict. Failure to do small things right makes one doubt his own self-discipline, which makes him weaker.

To make it easier to feel you're on the right track, Try modifying your goals into rules that are simple to follow. Some comments on your list:
    1. IMO, Sleeping on a specific time is quite impossible to do for a whole year and as soon as you go over your deadline, it gets harder and harder to keep the deadline because, in a sense, you have already lost. An alternative goal which has helped me tremendously is controlling the screen time. Instead of deciding a specific time for when to go to bed, decide a time when to stop using your screens instead. It takes less than a second to close the lid on a laptop and less than a second to turn off a phone or TV, so this rule will be much easier to follow. If you forget it sometime, don't worry as long as you turn off the screen the very second you realise you are past the deadline.

    2. I know this sounds like a very nice thing but it's also vague: How would you clean the house if it was supposed to be clean in the first place? If you clean the house, that means it was dirty but then you have also lost your goal. Maybe change this to something like clean the house for x minutes a day or so?

    3. I like this one but try adding a definition to "useless" so that you are sure about what you can and cannot do.

    4. This is something I would like to add to my own list as well :)

    5. From time to time, I have been eating in a KETO-inspired style and it's really good!

I would suggest adding concentration meditation to your list. It's extremely effective in building self-discipline FAST. How I do it: I set a timer for 30 minutes, then I'm sitting comfortably in my sofa and looking at a point on the wall. Then I'm focusing on my breathing. After a few seconds a thought pops up in my head and I will drift away and as soon as I realise it I bring back my attention to my breathing again. Sometimes I also listen to pink noise while doing this meditation. What is so good with this practise is that you will get a lot better in staying focused while doing other stuff. For me, the thought of watching porn usually comes from nowhere. How I respond to the thought is a function of how good I have been sleeping, how much coffee I have been drinking, how much concentration meditation I have done, etc. Meditating for 30 minutes or one hour will strengthen my self-discipline for several days.

I wish you the best of 2023 and may the force be with you :emoji_lifter:

I should mention that the list is vague because I'm assuming we know when we are to an extent aware when we are being unproductive. Let me clarifiy:

    1. When I mean sleeping at a specific time, obviously no one in the world will be able to achieve this every 365 days in the year. What i'm instead talking about is the dicipline to go back to the routine on those days where you fail to do so due to different reasons. Instead like every other things we make our minds to do, we try not to slack off for 1 day, and then another day and eventually break the good habit that we formed.

    2. A personal example here would be cleaning the dishes. At my worst I can go weeks without doing dishes, which in turn leads to me buying fast food/eating out instead of cleaning up and making dinner at home. Thus here is an example of a bad cycle I have. With the point of making sure the house is clean, for me it would be making sure that I always do my dishes after I make dinner, make sure I throw the trash away and so on. These are simple things but still many out there fail to do.

    3. Most people are to an extent aware when they are wasting time watching series, movies, playing video games, youtube etc. Personally I know binge watching series, which I do too often, is not good way to spend my time, but at the same time I also know that watching youtube for educational purposes because of a course i'm taking is not "wasting time".

I have tried meditation some times before, but don't know why i always stopped. I will look into starting again.

Happy New Year and Good Luck on the challenge.

Absolutely, but that's a reactive way of thinking, not a proactive one. By fixing your behaviour after the circumstances have already happened, you allow yourself to fail more than if you would have had a proactive way of thinking. When I had my best streak here on NoFap, I had a very good self-discipline where I had clear rules I lived by. If I failed with something, I analysed why I failed, then I came up with a proactive behaviour or rule I would follow, then I tried again, potentially with modified rules. For example, I once had a rule to stop using screens after 10 pm, then I failed a Friday night when I was watching a movie. After thinking about the why, I changed the deadline to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, then I tried again and went on for months without failing. That's just my five cents. :)

The list is in term of preventing future relapses and thus a proactive approach with regards to porn. And then you can of course come up with proactive approach to prevent the issues on the list, such as you mention setting a screen timer so you won't be able to waste time on screen.

Every day is an achievenent to be proud of. My last successful streak was 20 days i think. It's been a long journey for me. I remembered when i couldn't manage 3 days. Hell i remember when i struggled with 24 hours.

Woke up nice and early on day 2, did some yoga and wrote my menu plan/shopping list for the week. Nice healthy food and a few healthy 'treats'. Nothing hardcore, just a sustainable diet plan for slow steady weight loss.
