Can porn permanently damage your dopamine receptors?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Gavalar09, Mar 25, 2023.

  1. We would know by now if you could permanently damage your dopamine receptors. There's been a lot of studies. I just think your case sounds like you are pushing yourself too far when you're about 70% away from feeling healed, so it shuts down the mind again.

I had sex 3 times in a night 2 weeks ago and I went into a deep flatline after. Only had morning woof 2-3 times since then. I think I pushed my brain too far after a few weeks of nothing at all. I think a strict reboot and patience is the way forward. We are programmed to be attracted to women and to have sex; it will come back!

  2. No, just like you said. 1 relapse to porn and libido or morning wood is gone. In your case, give it a month at least to see where you at.

So your dick shrivels up after a relapse to porn as well? And it only returns from abstinence?

So when you abstain, erections come back for you? How long does it take for you to see that?

    What is essentially happening is:

You ejaculate. Your nervous system burns out from the ejaculation. You then have to wait weeks/months for your nervous system to recover and reach homeostasis.

What should be changing in each of our recoveries is that the time it takes to recover after ejaculation should shorten.

If you have been healing for 2+ years and still go into a flatline for 28 days or longer after ejaculation, something else is at play. Something is essentially blocking the nervous system from recovering and you need to address that.

We are all recovering as long as we are abstaining from our addictions but some of us are recovering at a snails pace because we haven’t worked out what it is preventing the nervous system from healing. It could be stress at work, it could be lack of sleep, it could be a terrible diet, it could be all three.

  8. 40 to 60 days at least. But depends how long you've been on Nofap. Like it took me 5 years between good streaks to get to these results. Keep in mind it never 100% erection. About 60 to 70%. However 40-60 days streak post a single relapse I got this percentage. So my brain never heal completely due to intermittent relapses.

5 years between good streaks meaning, you had been relapsing and keeping streaks for 40-60 within the time span of the 5 years, correct? Or am I wrong? Sorry.

But he recently went back to porn and he says he uses it every 2-3 months. Wouldn't porn be causing his issue? I mean, he still kind of uses it. He does need to stop.

Sorry, I don't mean to interfere. I'm just saying that him using it still isn't giving his brain a full recovery. He is recovering as it seems, but he hasn't fully recovered.

i wanted to add an extra post:

i have a cousin that is not a bodybuilder but he's been in the gym for more than 10 years, his body looks pretty amazing.
we are like bodybuilders of masturbation, we are in optimal shape to do it everyday, so we trained it very thought

my cousin stopped training sometimes for 1 or 2 weeks
he became really slim and his body become normal, even after all that hard training and diet

so, if you stop masturbating few weeks (not even months) you will see a significant change. It may take 2-3 weeks.
im telling you, in a few weeks your body becomes default again, if you stop teaching him to be good at masturbation!

    So an update.

My gf tried teasing me, BJ etc today.
Not very turned on and really struggled to get erect.

This is shit. I honestly feel like taking my own life over this.

  16. Ah man, PLEASE DON'T DO THAT. Those thoughts are pretty normal – I've had them during some incredibly embarrassing nights trying to push through PIED. This forum is filled with people who have recovered. You will too – just need to stick with it and accept there will be some low moments. Hang in there!

I read your post about the levels of the nervous system. It was written there that at a certain moment the body reacts to sex panic and the reaction "Hit and Run" At the slightest attempt to peek at erotic photos or think about masturbation immediately begins to tremble in the body, and almost comes to a panic attack. Do you know why there is such a reaction?

What frustrates me is I don't smoke, drink, do drugs. Never got into any weird porn stuff. Yet my dicks just doesn't work than any normal man's should.

It's shit to live like this, it really is.
