I’m 26 and I quit my good paying job a month ago and have been confined to my apartment ever since. I quit because I didn’t see the point in working >50 hours a week when I don’t have friends or a girlfriend to look forward to. All I did was work, eat, sleep and repeat. I lost all motivation and I couldn’t stand being stuck in an office with toxic managers anymore.
So I saved a good amount of money and got the fuck outta there as soon as I could.

Now I’ve been unemployed for a month and it is boring AF but way less stressful than working. I spend all day online mostly on youtube and forums. I only go out to get weed and food. I only have a couple months left before my savings dry up and I would be forced to be a 9 to 5 slave again. I’ve already sent in dozens of applications so far and only gotten rejections. I don’t even want to go back to work but sadly I know I have to soon because rent is outrageously expensive. Is this all there is to life if you weren’t born rich, just work until you’re too old to do anything or die? I wish I was born rich so I wouldn’t need to be a slave but unfortunately I am a slave in this modern society.

Yeah man. Slavery never ended. This is the modern slave era. Slaves that don’t even know they’re slaves. Slaves that defend their masters. The ultimate form of slavery…

  3. Guys... really?

I've been jumping from work to work and after some time I stabilised my situation. During that time I got a degree, married the woman I loved and got rid of my addiction. And in a month's time I'm thinking about changing my job again ('cause the money suck!). Am I someone extraordinary? Heck no! I'm a regular guy like you, but I don't whine and don't think of myself as some slave.

You don't want to have children, because you don't want them to be in the same situation? Are you seriously thinking that? It's not like they're going to have a terrible life! There's no telling what will happen.

Guys, don't be lazy about work. Listen to stories about people who used to "suck" and now are extremely experienced and, sometimes, even rich. Life isn't a fairy tale, but don't turn it into sad tearjerkers. Man up!

Good for you man. I hope to think like you one day. Constant failures and the monotony of life really fucks me up. I just can’t imagine my life being this way for another 50 years. I think I’m going travel while I still have some money so I can gain a different perspective or something… idk man.

You have the chance to change the work as you wish. In many countries this isn't possible, and if you have one, it's a necessity to hold it tight, even if it's a bad work, especially in these days. Other does not even have the chance to get a work, and have to leave their country to get it.
In some places they treat you like a slave, even if you belive to be in democracy, other does not even pay you because you are forced to do a work ''under the table''. Isn't all flowers, happines, ecc..I mean, and I'm from a country that consider itself ''rich'' and made a boast with that narrative. In my region almost every young lefted this and moved in a better and rich region, even if it cost you to switch your language, your culture, your roots and your family. I'm in a rich country and I have to reinvent myself if I want to survive in this chaos, and the future does not seem as good as many advertise (but neither is that dark as other advertise).
And, is necessary to stay aware for unemployed people, because it could bring to stagnation: Tv, videogames, porn, ecc...instead of doing something productive, you risk to make yourself like a larvae. Not easy for many to be consistent when they don't have a work, it could also bring to depression.

  6. That's... actually in line with my words, but more developed (apart from the part about changing the job as I wish). Thank you.

Yes, gaining a new perspective is good! And if you have a chance to get a job, take it. Maybe you'll spend a year or a few more in it, and maybe you'll begin to hate it, but you'll gain experience and money to go on. Be hopeful!

  7. We are the same age and I can relate to you. That 9 to 5 grind, working for someone else's dream. No friends. It was a real low and impossible to recover from an addiction. But man, there is a way out. We all have opportunities in life no matter how much money you have or don't have. I think this is your wake up call. My advise, go out there and do something, even if it's not bringing you money. Go offer to walk someones dogs, go help someone in their small business, go volunteer at an event somewhere. Basically just put yourself out there. When you find the courage to do it, naturally you start to change because now you suddenly have to be more presentable to the world and face up to it, be responsible, on time and help others.

I know this is easier said than done, but for me, it's a hell of a lot easier to jump in and face the world than to be a bum. We are human beings with the power to create so much. It just takes a little push and some energy. My favourite lyric from Avicii "We've been laced with the power of creation, so when the sun sets you bet you must face them"

    Good luck dude

  8. Okay, then, I'm talking to you now. Because I surely CAN talk like that after going through hell of addiction, all the hardships and family issues. We're not some special cases in this world, but each of us can choose. Life sucks, I know it well, but you know what you have to do? Go on. Not give up. You're stronger than you think. Man up!

I get the mccandless feeling too bro, I dreamed about it for years (especially the part where he travel arround the US, not the Alaska part I mean) I try to rebalance it with long trips with my bike. Try to work to get a decent bike and start!

The proble for me with works is that we are just bugs, Be a worker and build feel so useless..since there is no need of building and destroy nature, working in a office is boring and is better suicide.
Isn’t easy to work if realize you’re just a slave and you are not building because it is a necessity for the community but because some people are speculate with their business. Building is useless, we aren’t at war, there is no stimulus to build like a war destroyed everything, no one really needs it since there is plenty empty buildings and none wants to live in it.

Same thing for people, everyone is depressed and unhappy because this society kinda sucks, everyoje taking drugs like alcol, smoke, ecc.. and as we do with porn to suppress our consciousness and miss that we live in a shitty As I said the only good thing seem to leave for a trip and make some experiences, open your mind to other cultures...ecc...

I think there is a lot of truth to your post…

Something I often think about: if all the people would stop consuming stuff, and buying all this stuff for holidays, birthdays, entertainment, etc. …. Then a majority of these businesses would go bankrupt… and then everyone would be out of a job, and then we could all only work for the most important jobs (like grocery store, medical, etc.) - and there’d be so much excess workers, we could all work like 4 hour days

But the majority of society is too ignorant to ever achieve this ideal living scenario.

I’d advise you to quit smoking weed… when I used to smoke weed, I would quit jobs just like you. Now that I quit smoking weed about 6 years ago, I am overall more stable. I think weed is really bad for working a full time job

Maybe try and find a job that you work only 40-45 hours a week. Then in your spare time, go to the gym, and then make approaches to find a girl to live with you who also works a job, this would decrease the rent cost

  11. I know how nightmarish life can be, but don't know exactly how everyone feels. So, you're right. I wish you get out of the nightmare.

  13. The best thing is to stop using porn.
If you feel like a slave you have act like a slave.

Porn is the best way to make you feel enslaved (because you are).

And being rich should not take away your feelings of unluckiness.

No one here is a slave for work, you are not being forced to work. You can stop working and live on the streets as a free man, however, it would suck to be homeless and living on the streets.
Dig deep and work for one of these or a combination of these reasons: money, fulfillment, or earning a living pursuing your passion. Most of us work for money and find fulfillment and passions outside of work because it's hard to find work that does those things, but your life will be better if you are fulfilled and have a passion for something. Regardless of what you do some $ in your pocket is always a good thing, it's up to you to figure out how to earn it.
I was a slave to porn, nobody was forcing me to watch it, but the addiction made it almost impossible to not watch it. That's my version of slavery, and I'm here to become a free man.
