P/subs, what's the harm?

P/subs i.e. substitutes for porn are many and varied. They could be scantily clothed images of your preferred sex; a dating site; TV/films you know will contain arousing content; a fetish that does not involve any of the male or female sexual organs and more (e.g. feet, clothing etc).

I pose the question: P/subs, what's the harm? They are so named because they do not usually feature nudity. They might even be regarded by some as a mild, harmless or diluted form of porn but certainly nothing hard core, taboo or extreme in any way. So, what significance is there in looking at such P/subs? I have seen some dismiss the viewing of P/subs as irrelevant.

Of course, what is a P/sub to one person, may not be a P/sub to another. But lets assume that we shall choose to look at a P/sub suited to our orientation and desires. Now, the true impact of P/subs becomes clear. For example, if a gay man looks at a P/sub, he is not going to look at curvaceous girls in bikinis! In fact, he could view something counter to his gay orientation and find nothing arousing about it whatever. Yet he could view P/subs of guys wrestling and be hyper aroused. In this way, a P/sub may well have an even greater impact than hard core porn.

I believe there is great harm in looking at P/subs and that much dopamine will be released. Furthermore, the temptation to look at even more explicit or extreme images remains. A gay man aroused by the P/sub of scantily clad wrestlers may masturbate to it and/or search for hard core porn, such as men having intercourse etc. Moreover, I believe that P/subs can be just as harmful to the recovery from the overstimulation of dopamine. This is a fact I can attest to personally after my most discontinuation of my streak and subsequent reset. Please be warned!

I agree that the build up of wathcing p subs over a number of days is making your strggle even harder than it needs to be and will eventually lead to watching actual porn or acting out (M)

It is good to see you have P/subs specified as a reset criteria on your counter @RE:covery. I think that is very wise man.

I also believe the longer you are in a reboot, the more P/subs will turn you on. At the height of my addiction, so much porn didn't turn me on anymore, but as you become more sensitive to Dopamine during the reboot, P/subs have a greater and greater pull.

very interesting! maybe you're brain knows this leads to the porn as is having one last ditch attempt at reeling you back in? Booster, now that you have gone past this 'height' do you still feel a strong urge when seeing p subs? thanks

I Don't think the brain knows the difference between porn and P/subs, Its just Dopamine on seeing something thats Hot for the person. As my reboot went on, i got more and more sensitive to Dopamine. so a video on youtube would turn me on when 80 days ago i dont think it would have done .
Do i feel turned on by P/subs?, very much so. but ive learned to distracted myself and move away. rather than masturbate.

okay so you're sensitivity is at all time high. Thanks man

  8. wow its just as hard to quit looking at, pictures a 16 year old boy would like to look at, and looking at personal adds as it was to stop looking at high speed p , it is soooo hard! I look at the stuff 2 to 6 minutes a day, I suspect its like cigerettees you need just enough dopamiane to keep your brain going.

if i see a hot lady on a youtube video i notice her just as much if not more. Rebooting doesn't stop your sex drive rather puts it back to normal.

But yea ive not felt this sensitive in decades

Sorry to see you were bitten by a P/sub an hour or so ago. :( You have got to try and cut it out @yukon, seriously man.

  11. I just did a post in the reboot section, rather the repeting it in a superficial way, what do you think about it, if you have time to read it.

I agree they are damaging. They also caused my recent reset. They become a virus of the mind. We dismiss their power until they push us into the gravity well... I also decided to unify my counters to avoid falling into the trap that it was ok to keep a low counter on them as long as I did not masturbate...

Personally, I think we are fooling ourselves if we allow psubs. Most of these counters say not just Psubs, but rather P or Psubs. Psubs increase or create the urge to use porn. It is the reason my counter centers on porn.

Many are fooling themselves with a high no MB counter while still looking at porn. Your brain will take whatever you give it.

Totally agree with the posts in this thread. And here's another thought. Psubs dont have to be visual... I can name at least three songs that I won't listen too... Mighty suggestive noises.

  16. I completely agree with this! Right now I'm having a debate with myself whether it's worth watching this show I love "htgawm" even though it has a lot of triggers. I try my best to fast forward the sex scenes but it gets annoying.

  17. We have got to be careful. The addiction waits around the corner. Good information @IGY, thank you.

I think the whole point of YBOP was that images and pixels are not healthy to your brain. You should be getting aroused by real women/men/whtever-your-into in real life and not a computer screen.
Its similar to how edging (M without O) is bad too

hi , i was at the journal thread of septimus . where you are there too . i read this thing called p subs . i was confused . but thanks to your thread , now it is clear . it is something you mo upon instead of pornography right ? well , that wont help at all i guess . as you are still making your dopamine receptors suffer . and you are still not breaking the chain . all you are doing is just changing the view . your head is still filled up with the negative or destructive things you want to get rid of .

today was a very hard day for me . but i made through it . it was like torture . but i still didnt gave me . because i want to feel how it feels when i am rebooted . how my life will change . how much more creative will i be and what not . i want that . no excuses . i am getting that life , that's all :)
