Why can't we ban this shit!

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, Nov 29, 2015.

  1. A few years ago, I read a news report on the action taken by the Indian government to ban some porn sites in India. I felt so happy. After a few days, the ban was lifted! And nobody talked about this anymore! I don't see the point. There were no news about that, no reports, no statements, nothing. It was all of a sudden end of the story.

Man. I know the politicians must have known that porn is harmful. Then why are we allowing this cancer to spread among the youths? I really don't get why are these sites allowed if we know that they are poison!
I discussed this with my school teacher and he said because of the financial gains due to such sites (he used to teach us physics and he is really a nice person!). I was hurt! I was left wondering what gains are we getting from these filth. Okay even if we are getting these gains, are we so shameless and selfish that we put the lives of our youth on the stake for that??That's something to think about!

They say: If you want to destroy a nation, make obscenity common among it's youth!

I agree with what you say and I'm an Indian. I was relieved when they were banning porn. The fact that the government took a u-turn is no surprise. Most of our citizens are unaware of the dark side of porn and some don't know that they are addicted to it.

Another thing is the sexualization of woman in Bollywood industry. Now its like a norm to have an item song in it. No wonder the youth are not achieving their potential.

  3. (sigh). Man, we Indians keep on fighting for silly issues and no one really cares for this major epidemic.

  4. Yeah man! I remember myself educating my friends with this issue and they made fun of me. It really hurted me. I want this issue to be taught and discussed among the youth. You know, people don't see it as an issue man! This is insanity!

Isn't there some law in Britain where porn is automatically blocked when you sign up for it unless you other wise tell the provider you want yhe blockers off?
We should do that here in the states. But, it won't happen. Its considered free speech. Amazing how we don't want certain types of speech yet let that filth continue. Black is white and night is day.

I agree with you. I'm damn sure they are gonna brand me a nerd or social noob or anything that comes to their mind if I try the same. I guess we can only discuss these things with trusted sane friends.

Only those who know that they are addicted will understand the pain. The only thing we can do is to be free from this and evolve into our more superior form. I guess when they realize that they are addicted to this, they will remember what you said.

  7. Well guess what,
People love the things most that other people ban on.
Isn't the same case with us? one point why we love porn is that it's mysterious, its forbidden by our parents,it's like we are in a cage and we have been forced to not watch porn and talk about sex publicly. We get a thrill watching porn hideously.
-And what if the ban is put again?will it make a difference? NO,absolutely not. There are thousands of proxy servers online that allow you to watch sites that are banned in your country.Just google it and you'll find them.Watching porn is super easy even if you put a ban on it.

I know right? but at least there are countries like UAE and I think KSA who bans it by letting the citizens search them and ban them and if there's a mistake, you can ask them to lift the ban.

You're a pretty good guy by asking your teacher about it. If you're worried about your friends or relatives, suggest them to use P filter or something, especially parents not they themselves.

if porn is banned it'd grow in the underground market and that'd be even worse. i think instead of banning porn there should be porn addiction anonymous groups like alcohol anonymous groups. that way you can seek help for porn addiction.

consider the case when porn is banned. there'd be illegal porn. so now if someone is addicted to porn he'd be scared to seek treatment since the therapist can say: 'oh you saw porn but it's illegal.'

i dont think porn is all bad. in my opinion it is an expression of sexuality. some porno is extreme but then its always subjective. couples can watch porn n have adventures in their sex lives. its unhealthy if you watch only porno, just as its unhealthy if you watch only tv sitcoms or movies.

  10. I thought I was the only one who was thought porn should be banned. Unfortunately, most people enjoy it and refuse to see anything negative about it. WHenver I try to bring something up, people always have halfassed answers and ask me to prove to them. When I do, they point out some twisted flaws and stuff when really it's their twisted point of views if you know what I mean.

I think that if we make it legal, bad ones will still remain in the underground. By that logic cannabis and brothels(sorry to say it) are being legalized. Both them have disgusting ones underground.

It will make the whole thing worse. Not everybody would want to stop it, some of them will be happy and P will be the norm(as it is already in some parts of the world). They will be able to do it openly in front of curious kids. It will decay society to legalize brothels(again sorry to say it) and that will be the norm and be worse.

Its better to ban P than to later ban worse stuff.

Simple explanation: people like money, porn makes money. Unfortunately, for a big majority of today's population, the end all of life is pleasure, and money is a key part of that.

This is a really interesting discussion and something that I can see both sides of. On one hand, banning things never seems to really work. On the other, this shit really shouldn't be easily accessible and is extremely dangerous with zero benefit to a society.

Bit of history: in the early 1920s, Germany was considered the sex capital of Europe. The first movies depicting gay love, adultery, all sorts of unnatural sex acts, ect all emerged (interesting side study is who was largely responsible for these things). Prostitution was legal and considered a human right. Naturally, this was a very dark time for Germany with massive unemployment and the works. One of the things Hitler did when coming to power was put an end to all this filth. Many of the book burnings were mainly of pornographic materials, vile modern art, and communist literature. As he put it, the goal was the "cleanse Berlin." The time between 1933 and the start of World War 2 was extreme prosperity in which Germany went from a hell hole to a super power. Think what you will about Hitler, but the man knew how to turn a country around.

In the current era of technology, an outright ban isn't going to work. Having to signup for porn will help. What we really need is a massive media campaign about the dangers of porn and public shaming for anyone who participates in this.

  14. Not so sure about that. The antisemetic filth Julius Streicher published was full of porn.

It's just money, same goes for tobacco and other filth. One sin leads to the other.

I'm not saying that every NSDAP member was pure and holy, only that one of the aims of Hitler was to eradicate pornography. Hitler also implemented one of the first anti smoking campaigns in history. Just because someone is "evil" doesn't mean that they didn't get certain things right. The evidence of this is the economic turnaround in Germany.

    IMHO:
I don't think making porn illegal would stop anyone from watching it. The same way copyright infringement laws don't make people stop downloading or streaming movies from illegal websites. Also, the conditions for porn actors are bad as they are now. Reports about the industry mistreating its employees are coming up more and more often. But if it was illegal, there would be no protection whatsoever for the actors and that is something we cannot tolerate as a society. Banning something doesn't magically make the problem go away. You need more than that.

I think the way they do it in the UK (you have to opt-in if you want to access porn-sites, I guess) is an interesting option but I question its effectiveness. Are there any studies about the effects?

I also don't think porn is bad by definition. I think the key to the problems it causes is, as in most cases when people want to ban something: education. I can see that everyone here who is pro banning porn only has the best intentions for other people but I think it's the wrong mean to take. Think about it: You see how porn has bad influences on others and they don't even see it. We are pretty much the only ones who see it. And why is that? Because we educated ourselves about it. If we educated people about porn at an early age they would know better about how to deal with it. At the same time, porn would lose some of it's "mysteriousness" making it less interesting. When people have the right amount of information at hand, they will make good choices themselves. If you simply order them to do or not do something without an explanation, they will question you and probably disobey.

Just curious, in what ways do you think porn is good, helpful, or beneficial?

Your point being what exactly? That eradicating porn was part of the reason for the economic turnaround of Germany back then? So if we ban porn now, the economy would benefit? I think that's a bit more than far-fetched. Especially since the circumstances in most western countries today are not comparable to Germany in the 1920s/1930s.

I think that the mental health of a society plays a large role in its general success and prosperity. Porn, as we know, is a time waster, motivation killer, and reduces production and creativity at a huge rate. To my knowledge, WW2 Germany is one of the only western countries to actively attack this industry in the modern era. There are many other pieces to how Germany transformed so fast, but I find this very interesting from a historical perspective.

In the same way action movies are. It's entertainment. It can take your mind off of things. It's the dosis that makes something a poison. What about porn you might create yourself with your partner? I don't see how that's bad by definition. If a couple wants to do that together, I don't think the law should keep them from doing so.

Point taken, it definitely is interesting. I guess it would be a good idea to grab the industry by the neck and give it a good shaking every once in a while. Make them treat employees well, keeping it out of reach of children, educating society objectively about it and so on, but an all-out ban... I don't think that would be the best way to reach our goal.
