I am still fairly new to this, I have started my journal and already made two entries.

In the past I have been told that having cold showers can reduce levels of horniness. I tried this and found that they only distracted me in the short term, with no long term consequences. In fact, I remember once as a teen I intentionally fapped during a cold shower just to prove to myself I could.

Is there any science behind cold showers, or is it just and old wives’ tale? Can anyone suggest similar techniques I could try?

I thought this was probably the case. Thank you jipjap, a very interesting article nonetheless.

Realistically how long would I need to spend under the cold shower?

At my gym they have an ice bucket for tipping on oneself and a cold shower which lasts about 20-30 seconds. I always force myself to endure these (I've not got to the stage where I'm comfortable or 'enjoy' it yet) but I'm not sure I'm doing it for long enough to actually get any benefits.

Im sure I could look to gradually increase, but what is the suggested time frame I'm looking for?

I start out above 20°C/68°F and slowly go below that until around 17°C/62.6°F. Then I stand under there for 5-10 minutes. Some may shower colder, but this is good enough for me.
It's not exactly an enjoyable experience. The exercise is basically learning to be okay with the uncomfortable. When I'm done I feel great every time, though!
    Good luck!
