So the last couple of days I haven't really been getting urges, felt like I have been flatlining mostly. But then yesterday I was working out on site and mostly busy so I didn't have time to think, and then suddenly last night it hit me like a ton of bricks. I wasn't expecting such a huge urge and it was a little overwhelming.

I was on the laptop at the time and took every ounce of willpower to not do a quick P search! my fingers where literally hovering over the keyboard! I'm sitting there staring at my desktop and repeating "I'm in control" over and over like mantra whilst thinking about the negative outcome if I relapsed. So I slam the lid of my laptop down and try to get some sleep.

Whilst I'm in bed I realise just how difficult that first urge was to manage as I can feel my heart racing and a throbbing headache. It made me think how addicted I really am and it is discouraging but I couldn't have done it without the support of the NoFap Community because it gave me something else to fight for. Hopefully as these urges get stronger, I too will be getting strong enough to resist them.

Congrats on not relapsing. When i sit before laptop and the urge comes, i come to this website. do simple stuff, solve simple riddles. chat with forumites here. it helps. and then the urge to watch porn isnt strong anymore.

@Scarr215 Thanks for your support man, you been helping me from the start and I really appreciate it. It's too easy to be able to open a tab and do a quick search and it makes it that much harder but nah! your right man, we stronger than that!!

@abiwrites I think the pain of 30 push ups will make me forget let alone 50! I'll give it a go though, I'm gonna end up well buff by the end of this haha

@SnowWhite You are so right, already I feel so much more confident and convinced that I can overcome this, when the next big urge comes I'll be ready!

Thank you all for your encouragement and positivity!!

What you did is really difficult : you put back thinking in a completely automated process.
That's huge, and you have every right to be proud.
It seems like you don't have a porn filter : maybe you could use one.
Having a plan when you feel an urge is really important, because it helps you to get over the routine part of the habit (like 50 pushups : mine is 10 pushups and drink cold water).

Yes absolutely. In the moment the urge comes, it clogs up your whole brain and you forget all your previous plans.

BTW, a very simple method is to say loudly "STOP" and to clap your hands! That interrupts your routine, like waking up a sleeping person, and you return back to reality.

That's a very good description of what an urge feels like. It doesn't creep up but - WHAM - like you say: 'A ton of bricks'.

@Machin Thanks! I am proud that I held back, I've had some urges since and have been able to hold back thanks to your guy's tips and that I don't want to ruin it for myself! Also I never even thought about a porn filter! Thanks!

@SnowWhite You're right. When the urges comes it's like all thought goes out the window and it's like there's a second but it feels like minutes and I'm like battling it haha. I tried your method this morning where I shouted STOP and proceeded to clap my hands and my mum was like wtf are you doing!? haha. But it works thanks man!

@Saoirse I get them late at night and it usually is like this. It's like it's waiting to catch me off guard and then WHAM like a ton of bricks or a sack of spuds haha

I have been on NoFap since last summer. Sometimes PMO thoughts never enter my head. Sometimes they do and are difficult to shake off. Just the other day, I veered DANGEROUSLY close to PMO-ing. Although I have my counter here on NoFap, I actually use a calendar with a 'traffic light' system, and so I have to give myself a 'yellow' day for having gone and looked. I'm not sure if it would have gone further, but the urge was sudden and felt like mind control.
I also feel that this situation arose owing to a few other things that were linked to PMO in the past - e.g. being alone, prevaricating/time-wasting, having had a few beers [a rare thing for me these days]. A sort of perfect storm, and it made me think that 'relapse' is really a fall back to an old/unwanted personality, rather than PMO alone.

@Evo Haha LOL ;) But great it worked! And normally, if your mom knocked at the door, you would have also stopped. But in this case, it was you who made the initiative!

BTW, it also works to think like "OK, urge, give me 5 minutes". Then just relax, close your eyes, wait and let your thoughts go by. Like clouds on the sky. And within a very few minutes, you will see, the urge is gone, like it never was there! You have forgotten it and you feel strong again!

Urges are like ghosts, like projections on the wall, but still we tend to be scared of them and to act like slaves of them.
